In your opinion, is the Federal Judge overstepping her boundries or is this a legitimate check and balence of power? Any other comments in regards to the issue? Bringing debate and discussion back to the D&D one post at a time...
"In all the years I've been on the bench, I've never seen such an egregious violation of the court's rule on witnesses," Judge Brinkema ___________ If he hadn't pled guilty we would have a mistrial on our hands.
another screw up for the gov't. good job on letting a self professed member of al qaida off the hook.
I hope he gets life imprisonment, because I don't believe in the death penalty. IF this SNAFU brings that about, then thanks to the stupid FAA lawyer.
The question doesn't really match the article - 'checks and balances' don't come into play here. I don't know the particulars but as far as sanctioning parties for violating her order that is the kind of thing that happens every day. Anyway, it's kind of too bad that this is being presented by news outlets as a major development in isolation- the litany of missteps and screw-ups by the Government ("He's the 20th hijacker, oh wait, he's not!") and Judge Brinkema (he's insane, he's representing himself, no wait he's not, yes he is..not) have contaminated the Moussaoui trial for years now - mistrial or not, there was no way a guilty verdict should have been able to stand anyway. The whole thing has been a farce for years now.
It's so rare for a major trial like this to not be a joke ~ seems like many involved want to get as much face time as possible so they drag it out endlessly.
The problem with Moussaoui is that he's absolutely 100% insane and everybody's pretending like he's a normal defendant to get a conviction, which presents certain problems - such as insanity. How's a judge supposed to decide this motion?
