Is anyone gonna be there this Sunday to watch the Cougars take on the Owls. I've gotta work so I was hoping that the people who could go would fill me in.

P.S. Does anyone know if it will be broadcast on any radio stations or T.V.??? Any info. would be helpful to this frustrated Cougar fan. Thanks

HOUSTON - After nearly a month of practices, the University of Houston football team is ready to square off against crosstown rival Rice this weekend at Reliant Stadium.

The Cougars open their 2004 season at 4 p.m., Sunday when they meet the Owls at Reliant Stadium in the game for the Administaff Bayou Bucket. Following Wednesday's practice at the UH athletics complex, second-year head coach Art Briles said he was no different from his players in counting down the days.

"I'm just like the players are, and I am glad it's time. We've given high-fives as much as we can. It's time to play football, and it's time to have a purpose," Briles said. "We've been working for a purpose. Now, we need to make that purpose a reality."

Sunday's game can be heard live on Star 790 KBME-AM. Tom Frankin handles play-by-play duties, while Tony Fitzpatrick will provide color analysis. Chuck Brown will serve as the roving sideline reporter.

The pregame show begins 45 minutes prior to kickoff.

All Cougar football games can be heard live on the Internet by logging onto the UH Athletics web site at www.UHCougars.com.

For the first time in school history, the Cougars will open a season on a Sunday. With that in mind, Briles and his coaching staff had to make changes to the weekly practice schedule.

"It draws the week out a little bit. It makes a Monday a Sunday, a Tuesday a Monday and so on," Briles said. "We've survived the storm. Now, we need to pull the sails up and head home."

After finishing 7-6 a year ago and competing in the 2003 Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, the Cougars come into the 2004 season with high hopes. In nearly a month of workouts, both the offensive and defensive line has impressed Briles.

"That's where you win on either side of the ball, so that's where we have to be great. Those guys have worked hard. They're better now than they were on Aug. 6," Briles said. "We're ready to get on the field and see how they do against competition. They've been our biggest bright spot."

Rice, which finished 5-7 a year ago, brings a three-game winning streak into this weekend's showdown. However, the Cougars opened the Briles era with a convincing 48-14 win in the 2003 season opener.

Thanks NWO I appreciate it. I guess I was really getting my hopes up if I actually thought it would be broadcast on TV.
