Did any of you used to watch this growing up? I know I did. Well, if you did, good news! They are doing a 4 hour mini-series on Sci-Fi channel with an all new, updated version of the show which airs in early December. I believe they call it "re-imagining" the show. This will not pick up where the original left off. It will begin as if it is new. Some of the popular characters carry over but some of them are going to be different genders. Starbuck is now a woman with all the same traits. Boomer is a female as well. No daggit or any mechanical dog. Adama is still the man played by Edward James Olmos. Seems like they have a good cast(with some name actors and some new) and production going. A lot of the concepts and even designs of the original show will carry over into the new show. There may be cameos of the old characters but, for the most part, they are not in it. They have some "hotties" in this one as well. If the mini-series does well, then it will be picked up as a TV series. Originally, when I heard the Sci-Fi channel was doing it, I thought this is going to stink to high heaven. But, it seems there is a lot of thought, money, and effort going into this production. I think it could be pretty good but who knows? The original BG the characters were kind of black and white with not much to them. This updated version they are going to make the characters and show concepts have more depth. Don't expect to get any conclusions or answers to the previous BG series, however. So, if you like Science Fiction and ever watched the original BG(or even if you didn't), then you may want to give this a look in December. You can check out Sci-Fi channel's site for Q & A, teaser trailers, and photos if you want. I just thought it was news that after years of failures to materialize a new BG series or movie...it finally has gotten off the ground and looks promising.
loved that show when i was little.. will the baddies still look like this? here is another idea for a movie...in the Predador vs Alien theme..
Lukeeeee.....join with meeeee, sonnnnnn. I ammmm yourrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr father!!!!!!!! If your not talking about this, then your crazy.
I was a HUGE Galactica (and even B.G. 1980) fan. This new miniseries does not inspire confidence in me however. Edward James Olmos as Adama is acceptable, but the fact that both Boomer and STARBUCK are women strikes me as asinine. Starbuck was a womanizer, gambler, and generally as un-PC as it gets. Now Sci-Fi panders to their focus groups and makes 2 of the major pilots women, when several of the characters of the early show (Cassiopeia, Athena, and Serina among others) were women. I like to consider myself as progressive as the next guy but this complete rearranging of a classic (to me at least) irritates me. If they have a plotline where Apollo gets the hots for Starbuck I may vomit. Edit: BTW I'm apparently not the only fan of the original who has expressed reservations. Mr. Olmos addresses it here. You'll have to click the link below the blurb, I can't find a cleaner version at the moment.
Dr. of Dunk, I think I get it... the bad guys in BG sounded that way... I remember the ride through stunt show at Universal Studios in '83 and, I think the line was "beedee, beedee, beedee. Okay, Buck!" from "Buck Rogers" btw, not BG
I don't get it. Talking in a fan sounds like the Cyclons? Nah. Fan talkers are Darth Vader only...even if they don't mean to be. I guess die-hard BGers won't be happy with any new version. I don't rightly care how true to the original it is. It seems more similar than it does different. As far as some of the characters making a gender switch, that doesn't really bother me either. They said even though Starbuck is a female now she will have similar traits to the original character except I guess she likes guys...lol. I don't want the same, boring cookie cutter characters from the original. They have to be redefined in some way or they would be shallow like the originals.
Explain how they can afford to finance this and crap like Tremors the Series yet they cancel the final freaking season of Farscape, leaving us with a cliffhanger. Grrrrrr...
Nah, you need stormtroopers vs. redshirts so you have the guys who can't hit anything against the guys who constantly die.
Eduard James Olmos is on record as saying if you liked the original, you should not watch this one because you'll hate it. Believe it or not, but the SciFi Channel doesn't actually like science fiction. You'll note that they play things like Braveheart and the Flintstones movie now. The new Battlestar Galactica will likely suck something from the underside of a donkey.
