I have been playing the Demo for Battlefield 1942, quite simply it is the best time I have EVER had playing a PC game. It is kind of like Counter Strike on steroids set in WW2. You can drive Jeeps, tanks, airplanes, battleships, Aircraft carriers, embattlements, ack ack guns, shore batteries, or just run around as a simple grunt. The game supports up to 64 people playing at one time. We are going to open up a server tomorrow as soon as I can figure out the ports I need to open in order to get it to work. Frankly, if you liked CS even a smidgeon, this game will blow you away. The demo has 2 sides fighting over Wake Island, the Japanese and the Americans.....it is amazing. DaDa, Just gazing over the website, the game seems pretty cool. Do you know what computer specs are required to run it? I have a very old and slow computer with an old graphics card. I'm not sure if it will work on my computer or not.
Blade, I think it requires a Geforce 2 and 500mhz, but not totally sure. It runs fine on my 1.7mghz Geforce 4 machine. Of course that does not stop me from getting killed A LOT !! DaDakota

simple question, simple answer... YES I knew it was the best ever when I found myself driving the battleship around the Island inorder to bombard the shore in the main town. and low and behold, another player whom was dropping bombs and straifing me decided to parachute out of his plane onto the deck of my ship, and we had to fight it out for ownership. he got me with a grenade from a distance, and blew me overboard. I ended up swilmming to shore and blasting him with one of the defensive turrets. unfortunately I killed the other dude that was on the ship too, but at least I got that rat. and just before he jumped on the landing craft to come and hunt me down.
VOR, This is exactly what I am talking about. Today, I was driving my jeep at full speed when I noticed an armor personel carrier with about 4 people in it.....they were fighting my troops on the ground, so I aimed the jeep at the carrier and dove out and it rammed into it and BOOM bodies went flying. It was wonderful. Also, when I was in a tank, I shot a jeep and it FLEW through the air and landed on the beach, one of the guys survived, and shot me in the back of the tank with his bazooka....man what a game. DADA, there are supposed to be subs too, and i forget the other stuff. a joystick certainly helps in flying the planes though and an optical moust is basicly a necessity if you are into these sorts of games.
DaDa...i downloaded the demo and gamespy but i cant join games? i think my system might be the problem. ive got a dell pentium III with 127 MB RAM. I have whatever crap videocard came with this computer. which could be the problem. Its why i stopped playing cs bc when ever there was lots of action i would lag even though im on dsl. what video card should i get. ive got $ to spend, not really but you only live once, the only problem is when i got this pc i didnt know it came with only pci slots. so whats the best pci video card on the market is what i want to know...
wow u guys have so much better luck then I do. I jump onto a plane and startup the engine only to clip my wing on a flagpole and blow up. or...i finally take off of the battleship only to do a barrel roll and end up in the ocean. I set landmines on the road and jeeps come by and run me over. I help the other men capture a base only to be shot by one of my teammates... but yeah its an awesome game.
Man, let me say that the people at EA did a tremendous job on Medal of Honor:Allied Assault. That game is addicting and I'am sure Battlefield will be the same. The graphics look incredible!
Dada, Thanks for the recommendation. This game is awesome!! My girlfriend was watching me play, and I said 'see, I can even fly the planes!' I got into one and ran smack into the side of a building. Oh well, it is fun as all heck. I just wish I didn't have to do homework! I love the detail in it!
The planes are hard, but I use a joystick and have no problems...... We played over 10 hours today at work, it is the best multiplayer game of all time. DD
I'm still trying to clear space from my wifes computer to download the game. It sounds great. I guess maybe if I get rid of Fallout 2 there will be enough room. I want to crash into things and blow people up, da**it! I really need a new computer.

The game is pretty cool. During one mission, I managed to jump into a plane right before take-off to be some guy's gunner, but I got bored quickly, and parachuted my ass outta there into enemy territory, whereby I took over a lookout tower's big gun and shot the holy hell out of the Yanks on their own turf (I was one of them evil Axis guys...). Taking a cue from DaDa, on another mission, I bailed out of a tank right before it nailed an enemy jeep, blowing the vehicle sky high. There's no greater satisfaction than sacrificing 2 vehicles to get your man in an blantant overkill situation. Next, I think I'll try kamikazing a plane into an enemy tank for laughs (of course, parachuting out right before to view the carnage). (And yes, I'm the same guy who loves destroying cars, FBI g-men, helicopters, and anything else that gets in my way while playing GTA3...)
I play on whatever server I can get into. I would be glad to join a CCnet clan if someone can set it up. I play as Blinky. Yesterday, I was an Am anti-tank guy. I destroyed an Axis tank, then jumped in a plane and sunk the destroyer and parachuted onto the carrier. I bazooka'd a plane that was taking off, and stole the other plane. Then I sunk the carrier with their own plane. I parachuted back onto land, killed another guy with my pistol, and got into a tank and used it to destroy an apc with 2 guys in it and shoot another guy who was running around. Right before the tank blew up, I bailed out and picked up the engineer stuff and set some mines which eventually killed a jeep. That was a VERY productive life.

I am trying to set up a server at the office, but whenever I set up an internet server it will not let those of us INSIDE the firewall connect, and that just will not do. DD
Dada, Please let us know when you have a serve set up. So many of the servers have passwords now, it's hard to find one that is available. Thanks!
