Making that choice was not fun. The Beatles and Led Zeppelin are two of my favorite bands of all time. Had to go with The Beatles though. While Zepplin rocks many many more times harder, I can put on the Beatles in pretty much any mood at any time of day and enjoy them. I have to be in the right mind frame for Zeppelin. (Which isn't such a bad thing)

The Pink Floyd choice was easy.

    BA1) The Beatles
BC1) Led Zeppelin-winner, I respect what the Beatles did for music, but I'm more hard rock/metal inclined: thus Led wins. Plus, Stairway to Heaven is one of my favorite songs ever.

BB1) The Rolling Stones-winner, The stones had the influence of the beatles but were much more hard core rock. Essentially a great well rounded band. Pink Floyd is good too, but cannot compare to the impact that the Stones had on rock music.
    BD1) Pink Floyd

this was a really hard decision, I like Led Zeppelin a lot, The Rolling Stones are ok, I just like Pink Floyd more personally, the stones were a great band, but I just find Pink Floyd better.

"Scores" are the number of CDs I own by each band.

    BA1) The Beatles 17
    BC1) Led Zeppelin 5

This is the second highest scoring matchup in the entire tournament. (The highest scoring matchup was U2 13, Radiohead 10 in the round of 64.)

    BB1) The Rolling Stones 0
    BD1) Pink Floyd 2

Thanks to "The Wall." I guess Mick Jagger et al.'s attitude is quintessential "rock-n-roll", but I've never found that appealing. Ditto with punk.

Man, four completely different kinds of rock bands. I love all four. I never got to see the Beatles play as a group, although I saw them play individually. The others I've seen several times. If I had to choose based on the concerts I saw, then I wouldn't be able to pick the Beatles. As for the other three, they are all just an absolute gas to see. The Stones are the greatest rock and roll band left, and they can't be beat in that category. Zep is the best "power trio" left, and arguably the best in that category, after the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Floyd is the best, and only, progressive rock group left. The Beatles are just in a category of their own... the Beatles influenced everyone who came after them, in one way or another.

If I could get the three groups I've seen in a concert together, I would have Zep open, followed by Pink Floyd, and then have the Stones rock the house to it's foundations, leaving me with ringing ears and a goofy grin on my face, to match my blown mind.

Just to irritate Manny, here's the Led Zep poop from the '69 Texas International Pop Festival...

    In the finals:

    The Beatles

    vs.

    The Rolling Stones

The Beatles beat Led Zeppelin every day. Why? The Beatles created the blueprint for every other rock and roll band to follow. They invented the idea that pop bands are supposed to grow, change and evolve. Think about this: in *two*, count 'em, *two* years the Beatles went from "I Want to Hold Your Hand" to "Tommorrow Never Knows." There will never be a band again that makes those kinds of leaps in one career. They made everything Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd do in the future possible. Beyond that, the Beatles have more great songs and a much higher percentage of great songs than any band ever. Led Zeppelin rocked harder, but the Beatles did more better. It's like comparing Darryl Dawkins and Hakeem Olajuwon. Not to discount Led Zeppelin, I own everything they did, but their songs don't mean the same things to people that the Beatles' songs do. The Beatles influenced more bands, more people and more lives than anybody else. Not even close.

The Stones get the nod over Pink Floyd because they brought more sex and evil to rock and roll than anybody else. Pink Floyd were great in their way, but the Stones just have more songs when it comes down to it.

LED-F*ckin-ZEPPELIN - the beatles did more for rock music than any other band in history, by far. and like i mentioned earlier, they evolved soooo much in such a short amount of time. that being said, Zeppelin is hands down my favorite band of all time. Zeppelin just flat-out ROCKS. these guys practically invented metal/hard rock and were/are the epitome of living the decadent rock 'n roll lifestyle. i urge everyone to watch the LZ DVD before voting.... you will be blown away.

    *VOTE LED ZEPPELIN*

Pink Floyd - harder choice here as i've gotten into the stones more as of late, but Floyd was the first classic rock band that i really got into back when i was in high school. and like i said earlier, i think DSOTM is definitely one of the greatest albums of all time.

EDIT: ....and Deckard is a personal hero of mine.
