Good tidings to all. This is my first ever thread, but I've been a fan of clutchfans for 5 yrs and a rockets fan pre dating the championship years.( 2 time red rowdy too.)

but i digress. Is it me or does it seem as if Battier's shot is just off. I do appreciate what he brings on defonsive end but if you're gonna get as many minutes as battier does you have to contribute to both facets of the game not just defense, oh yeah and he got beat on a number of picks last night.

Agreed, he's only shooting 50.00% from behind the arc during preaseaon.

His 3 pt bomb is off approximately 50.00% of the time.

Being old and declining does that to you.

I probably should've looked at his numbers, but battier shouldn't live and die on his set shot alone. He's in the freakin NBA. develop a jab step, mid range game. SOMETHING!

For one, it would make him a better option at starting SF.

if battier worked on a head fake and quick first step to an open space on the court and took a jumpshot in rhythm. i dunno maybe a few more ppg.

what does he work on during the offseason defense

Brooks and Martin can do the jab steps. Battier needs to focus on defense and 3 pt shooting.

Battier actually has a post game that he occasionally uses and can hit other shots too. The problem is those shots are not nearly as efficient in putting up points as the corner 3 and he's probably looked at the stats and realized that his posting up or shooting a mid-range jumper are probably lower % shots than having Yao post up, Martin hit a mid-range jumper or AB drive to the rack. His hanging out on the corner does exactly what he needs to do: spread the floor, dump the pass into Yao, and make em pay when they sag off of him.

If Aaron could play D like Rondo, and Martin pass like Lebron, and Scola block shots like Ben Wallace, and Yao do windmills like Dwight. Man! We would be sick! They in the freakin' NBA. Develop SOMETHING!!!!!

Why Scola no work on 3 pt shot? Why AB no work on post-up game? Why Brad Miller no work on shot blocking? Make better player! More fun to watch!

1 Dimensional Rockets no can NBA!

his three point shot is fine, its moreso his attempts to "assert himself" in the post. i agree that when a mismatch is found, expose it, but when one's ball handling skills are substantially below average and the help defense swarms, battier's effectiveness in the post is greatly reduced. over the past couple of years he has had a very serviceable jump hook with both his left and right hands.

i don't know what has happened recently, but i cringe (in an ariza-esque fashion) every time he attempts to make a drive or struggle for post position. if someone could show some video of his post-ups and drives to the hoop, it would be painfully obvious...

you can say the same about Budinger and his defense...and pretty much about the whole team....sometimes you're lucky to get a complete player, and sometimes you're not. Most of the time you won't be.

And picks? Who doesn't get beat on picks on the perimeter.

About the the other stuff, the OP is refering to last season, not the preseason, as battier hasnt even played a lot of minutes. Let the season start first.

No. His shot is fine, his touches are not to him. He is really the fifth option with the first team and he has been camping out in the corner like he used to earlier with the Rockets a few years ago. When he does touch the ball he is rushing up shots because he knows he needs to be involved to A. Keep a job B. Keep the defense honest and keep the offense more freedom off of Yao and Kevin. Later in the year when Yao and Martin are getting double teamed he will be knocking 3's in the corner like he used to. Honestly Battier looks real fresh this year and is getting to the rim alot better he's just not converting on the few touches he is getting. Budinger is only a few months away from starting if Battier doesnt get it going and he knows this and feels pressure.

Have the Rockets considered making Yao a point center?

Courtney Lee is the better Sf and he is short and a guard. He can play defense and offense though. Unlike the two SFs we have so far.

Exactly,Battier can be better. I like him,but he is the Teflon Don. Other players need to step up too,but whenever he gets 3-4 points a night,we lose.

Players are who they are. Battier is a 10 year vet, he's not developing anything. And he doesn't need to develop anything to contribute to winning. And whenever that stops being true, he won't be starting/playing as much.
