Rudy Gay, 19.6 ppts, 5.5 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 22 yr old Shane Battier, 7.8 ppts, 3.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 30 yr old So, the answer seems obvious, Memphis got a better trade
Wow what a original thread, we do not see enough of these threads. Why not also start a thread about how we drafted Mirsad Murcan instead of Rashard Lewis
firstly look at their record and then ours and secondly we do this dumb comparison once every few months and i'm truly sick of it
There are numerous threads that have discussed this and most people are tired of it, so you may run into some scorn. Yes, the answer is obvious -- Memphis got the better end of the deal... privately the Rockets will tell you they did not think Rudy Gay would prove to be this good. Still, the Rockets are contenders and if they win the title during the McGrady-Yao era, it will likely prove to be justified.
The bulls with Michael Jordan got the better pick, whether you like or not. I think this team needed a Battier more than another player who needs the ball. gay is a nice player but would have developed this much this fast on the rockets with out the ball? Still hindsight tells us the rockets should have had the dynasty in the first place but every one seems happy with who we got (Dream). battier has been an excellent influence on the other players, can the same be said about gay?
At the time, I thought we needed a 3rd scoring option. Ultimately, I think that proved itself true. I think the Grizz got the better end of this deal. I think Gay is a better player than Battier. My biggest concern from that night was not just that they traded Gay...but that they said later they never would have taken him were it not for this trade. They missed on Gay. But we got what we got...and we're still playing well.
Wow,the second I saw this thread,I was like totally wowed! Unbelievably just showing stats comparison between this 2 players and don't see something beneath the stats, there's something that doesn't surface on the sheet. Shane brought us alot help on the defensive end and somehow he really can still contribute on the offensive end with his 3s.He's definitely a great defender for us and we won more games since we got him.I know Rudy played extremely well and becomes the no.1 option in Memphis. But,wait, scoring more points per game doesn't mean anything at all,it couldn't reflect how valuable you are to a team, look at the stat of T-Mac durin his Orlando period, that's AMAZING,and then what?19 losses in a row, that was remarkable, wasn't it? Just tired of seeing this comparison, bring some new dude.
I for one screamed and shouted when we drafted Rudy Gay I had a draft party and me and my homeboy we thought Rudy would be the third scorer we needed then I was pissed when we traded him a few moments later for Battier however now that we have Artest he should be that third scorer and hopefully starts and Battier can be that role player off the bench.
Over-simplified comparison. 1. Will Gay get this number on the Rockets roster? 2. The Rockets wanted to win then when they made the trade, although for various reasons "to win now" didn't pan out. 3. It′s easy to be wise after the event. 4. Terrible thread. How many this kind of threads to we have now?

Get over it!
One of the worst trades in franchise history. Rudy Gay will only get better while Battier, as his play has shown this season, is getting old and is on the decline. It's still not too late to salvage the situation. Trade Shane for Outlaw and Channing Frye.
Who has the better team? If Battier is the reason we have our record, I'll be worshiping the ground he walks on. That matters because... Oh wow, for a 12 PPG, 2 boards a game difference, Battier better a helluva lot of D, which he hasn't done this season because of the injury. Now that's another argument in Rudy Gay's favour isn't it?
