I'm not exactly sure what Rick Adelman was thinking in the first game since the trade. He did not play Armstrong, Jeffries, or Hill one minute. Maybe he wants to learn about them more before he puts them in the game and Martin knows the system so he was comfortable putting him in. But to put armstrong and jeffries in only to tell them to focus on rebounding and blocking shots and dunks. Why wouldn't you try to use our length?? The Pacers have Hibbert, what is that guy 7'3 or 7'4???

We had brooks, martin, ariza, battier, and scola/hayes as a lineup. That is definitely not going to cut it. Battier is a perimeter defender, and can nail a three here and there. We have many players at that 2/3 spot. I think our starting lineup should be Brooks, martin, battier, scola, and hayes. with lowry, ariza, budinger, jeffries, and armstrong coming off the bench. hill probably still needs some time to develop. i think ariza should come off the bench and play that 6th man bring the energy off the bench role, but still get his minutes. with battier having to take a cut in his minutes.

I know it'll take some time for adelman to figure out what he has and what he's going to do. i was just really upset that he put shane battier at the 4 for so many minutes. and i hope this isnt a precursor to what hes going to do for the rest of the season.

exactly. dude u stole my exact thoughts but I did not feel a need to start a thread about it. but im glad u did.

NO SHANE BATTIER AT POWER FORWARD PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SHANE is a wing through and through. he cant even guard those power strength small forwards such as lebron and melo that well let alone those power forwards such as troy murphy who can just shoot over him and get all the rebounds he wishes over battier...

battier is a extremely poor finisher for his size.........when you have him battle it out in the paint he will be worse than chuck hayes.........his only offensive game is the 3 pointer and what good is it if you put him at power forward to mess about with the other teams big man??? shane wont even sink a layup with his offensive repertoire

He had a really bad game yesterday, but I would have to disagree with that one...I still think we need his leadership on the court. Reduced minutes maybe, but I think the minutes Martin gets should come equally from several players.

Not saying this team wouldn't be better with people playing their natural position but..
Actually, he's done a pretty good job on these two overall.

And what kind of emo puts that many ! after one sentence?

So Troy Murphy only wished to get 2 offensive rebounds all game, over Battier or otherwise?

Yeah, I'm on the trade Shane train. Get an expiring and 1st round pick.

Next year with Yao back will be when we need Battier more than ever. Don't forget that he plays really well off Yao. I still hope we would re-sign him for little money after his current contract will be up, and that he would sort of become a coach on the court for us (in reduced minutes). Reducing minutes, fine.

He is an expiring next time we can trade him (ie next season).

Shane and Jeffries = max value expirings next season. Their value won't be known until nearer the deadline - and if Les is willing to pay tax next season, they might just net us something.

Battier had 20 and 10 against the Bucks.

You would think he was some kinda scrub with some of the comments like he shouldn't be in the rotation. He is ranked 72 in fantasy basketball.

    Sammy,

It is not that he sucks, it is that we are developing for next year, let him rest, find out if cbud and trev can handle a bigger workload, then trade a wing in the offseason.

Developmental years are when you develop.

He was on fire against the bucks, but is that really consistent? How often does Battier score that much, or i should even say how often does he get double digits. I think he should be in the rotation, i think he should start like chuck hayes to set the tone defensively. but i think he needs to get reduced minutes, and i also think he is expendable for next year because we have so many people at that 2/3 spot. i like the idea of him having a player coach role for us. But it may be too early in his career for him to have that role.

chemistry is also one thing needs to be developed. Battier should be in the rotation, but his minutes should be cut down. Preferably Ariza and Battier should stay on the court together less since now Martin is here.

Armstrong, Jeffries, and Hill don't know what they're doing out on the floor at this point; at least not until they've had a practice. They are a detriment right now. After a few practices, they'll get to see some playing time behind Scola/Hayes (at least one of 'em). But last night? Nope, would only hurt us.

With Andersen and Budinger coming off the bench, Battier will help a lot. The white boys' defense is suspect at best (Chase is more solid, but still gets hung up on screens too often), and Lowry is too small to guard a lot of players. Battier will work well off the bench.

If y'all are still freaking out about last night or trying to make some sort of statement because of it, everyone missed switches and assignments last night. It was just terrible overall.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I am so sick and tired of hearing that statement... as if the team that we have on the court right now is just there.

Hopefully Morey is not like a lot of you by putting all of his Yao's in one basket..

There are so many many many unknowns with Yao that it's sicken...
    1) Can it play in pain
    2) Will the injuries limit him
    3) How will he affect the offense
    and many many more....

We are in a disguised rebuilding year and I can see Morey moving forward to quietly building his dynasty.

I'm almost positive that the only reason Battier played PF last night is because Adelman didn't think Jefferies or Hill were ready to just be thrown in there.

Shane is much more suited to those finesse jumpshooting guards like Kevin Martin and brandon roy than the likes of the brute force strength types such as lebron and carmelo. its not a coincidence when we had ron artest here last year and we faced the cavs that we always put ron artest on lebron. If shanes so effective, then why do we put a supposedly "lower-bball-iq" guy on lebron? Its so easy to say when we manage to contain a superstar wing player to his season average stats to credit shane with all the glory and effort....but lets just stick to the recent games to begin with......may I remind you of the first matchup with carmelo of this season?

    9:00 PM ET, December 16, 2009

    Pepsi Center, Denver, CO

    HOU 101
    DEN 111

    C. Anthony

    38 points (!)
    9-23 Field Goals
    1-1 Three point field goals
    19-20 free throws made-attempted
    9 rebounds (3 offensive)
    3 assists
    1 steal
    1 block
    2 turnovers
    3 personal fouls

Sure..shane has indeed done "well" ;)

(shane committed 5 fouls in that game btw in 31 minutes ;) obviously couldnt handle carmelo much could he? or no?

and the second game of the season.......well carmelo wasnt playing that game and we still lost with jr smith scoring a team-high 22 points...

if only all those (!s) I put down was enough to illustrate how I actually feel about my view...you don't have to be completely emo to use a few extra punctuation makrs for a desired effect...

how many offensive rebounds do you actually expect someone to get?

as if his game-high 12 rebounds weren't telling of the story enough.....

There's no doubt he's having his worst season of his career. He has scored in double figures 19 times this season but he's still our best perimeter defender.

1 steal and 1 block per game is pretty adequate. I wouldn't mind him being moved but his trade value has diminished in my opinion.
