Wow so last year in the playoffs 2 of our starters were recommended to have microfracture surgeries and one of them was out altogether and we still took a healthy jazz team to 6 games. nice.

3 of the starters did go under the knife immediately following that series. So 4 starters had surgery. That team defined grit. Every high school coach should show their kids those tapes.

Am I reading too much into this?

"And I think I have more cartilage than Tracy had."

I think he is standing up for TMac...even though theyre both experiencing, more or less, the same thing. Yet, Battier rehabs and plays with discomfort...

Why didn't Battier fly across the country until he found a doctor that told him he could take the season off?

Come on, Shane, get with the program.

I think you can tape an ankle and play through it a little easier than a knee injury. Not sticking up for him, but do you think Tracy is really going to jeapordize his career if he didn't really feel like he had to.

See the difference? Shane > T-Mac in term of Rehab.

Your ankle bears your weight during every lateral movement, jump, run, etc...

TMac is missing cartilage on a non-weight bearing portion of his knee.

Also, TMac isnt risking anything with this surgery...this is meant to help him build cartilage, its not a career ending surgery. If the surgery doesnt pan out, he will be no worse off than he was prior to the surgery.

People keep talking about how this surgery can end his career. No, this surgery gives him a chance to play without the current discomfort. In no way will it make him worse off unless the surgeon purposely rips off more cartilage.

Cmon, what part of "it wasn't a recommendation" do you guys not understand??? These are two entirely different situations. Credit Battier for his grit, but his obviously was not as bad as Tracy's

...OK, and where in the article does it say that Battier was MISSING cartilage???

You cannot compare the two cases at all.

You do realize that a few of the top surgeons did not recommend that TMac have the surgery, right?

It was only after multiple opinions that TMac found a doc that would do the surgery.

Do you really think its just discomfort??? Do you really think he doesn't need this surgery?? Did you see him play this year?? Obviously, he is hurting to the point that he can not be effective. Now, I absolutely disagree with the way he handled it, but he's not having surgery for the fun of it!
