http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/recap_rockets_vs_twolves_n_2010_11_07.html So, according to Shane, he wasn't brought in just for defense. Maybe even not primiarly for defense. He always has been one of the better post entry passers on the team, would be interesting if that was a substantial part of the thinking in acquiring him.
(on Yao Ming's play) “He is a great player. He told me his foot is bothering him. It's kind of the coach to figure out his minutes and how to play him to get the most out of him. They really need him as their main number one option.” uh oh.
he's always been the best entry passer....i remember a lot of fans thought that was overrated because it doesnt seem too difficult, but there's a timing you have to have to get it there consistently. The entry passer can greatly influence how easy or difficult the shot is, especially the closer you get to the rim.... a good example is the highlights from last night. I think they showed one or two where he timed it very well i cant believe Love though they could have beat us... that wasnt battier, but Milicic's quote, just clarifying that...wouldnt surprise me if Yao told him that just to trick him
Yao probably told Darko his foot is bothering after spending all game (or at least a part of it) kicking Darko's ass.
I have made this point before. Shane is a very underrated passer. He's always ranked high among SFs in advanced passing metrics. From Hollinger: (registration required) http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/players/hollinger?playerId=976 He's a very underrated passer who was fourth among small forwards in pure point rating; with Yao Ming coming back, Battier's ability to enter the ball into the post should prove helpful.
Yep he is a good post passer. If was Horry like when he could shoot the open three if they doubled Yao. Similar to Hakeem. Now not so much. Passing is still great to get it to Yao. Which shouldn't be that big a problem if you didn't have such a stumbling uncoordinated center who needs laser like precision on entry passes into the post because he has no lateral movement whatsoever. Let alone good hands to softly catch anything but direct dump down passes to him. No bounce passes ever and no lobs for Yao. Limited yes, but he gives Battier a job now at least.
A true lie! Five years ago, Tmac was here, and he was the best passer. Rockets brought Battier here for his defnese. Everyone knew it.
A Chinese person talking to a Serbian person in English can make for a lot of misinterpretations. Don't worry about this, Yao looks fine.
