The Rockets addressed 3 of our biggest wishes .......... a starting line up with one less person over 32, outside shooting in Novak, and getting rid of a player that was over-priced and never fit in. Yes I admit that we could have gotten more than Battier (at least give us some cash ) but no one knows what Gay will do. He's a mystery box. I don't understand why you people over-react, why some of you even go as far as leaving the team. Have some faith, in Juwan ( the guy who backed up Yao when he was fouled hard ), in JVG ( who will go to war with the refs for Yao ), and CD ( I'm sure he knows what he's doing ) Let's see how this pans out after next season but for now just look at our line-up now, possible trades and free agency this summer and winter. We have alot of upside. We don't know how Shane will produce outside of Memphis, possibly even better with stars like Tracy and Yao. This is just the start of the moves we're making. If you leave the Rockets as a fan then you were never a fan to begin with. It hurts more to hear that than to hear one of us suggest trading Tracy, it ALMOST hurts as much as to hearing a ''rocket fan'' cheer Dallas in the playoffs. P.S. Reggie Bush? You have no idea what he's going to do either.
Gay is the leading scorer on the UConn team that has four players in the first round. Why do you think he is a complete mystery? You can go watch some NCAA games to decide for youself.
Worthless thread. Not even worth arguing with someone who is going to defend Juwan howard. Gay, Foye, and Redick were worth taking a risk on whether they bust or not.
lol...you roll your eyes. hilarious. so, it's that big of a lock that gay will be a stud in the nba, right? you should become an nba scout man! sounds like you really have the system beat!
lol..... you use sarcasm. hilarious. so, it's that big of a lock that gay will be a dud in the nba, right? you should become an nba scout man! sounds like you really have the system beat!
Yes, sounds good. AND did you know that Novak only missed 18 free throws over his entire college career !!?! What a shooter, what a steal
We did address our need for a 3 who could defend and shoot. We also drafted or range-shooting big in Novak. Now all we need is a backup 4--which can be had cheaply--and depth in the backcourt. Re-signing Bogans would be helpful--he's a solid defender and someone who can attack the basket.
Yep I concur, you lose all credibility when you defend JHO and then follow it up with Van Dummy. Discuss the trade on it's on merit and you might have leg to stand on albeit gangrened.
Let me provide you with a little information because I think either your optimism or liking Battier as a player may have obscured this to you. This is the summ total of our assets to make moves... 1) Mid-Level Exception worth $5.5M This is the same MLE as 26 other teams have in a pretty bare Free agent market. And IF we can sign Mike James with it, it will take the full amount. 2) One trade exception worth $4.2M which can be used but not combined with any of the following: Juwan Howard, Luther Head, & Rafer Alston 3) One first round pick from 2007. I don't want to be nasty, but I will be blunt. That's not a hell of a lot of assets to make moves with.
Apparently 7 other teams disagree with you. Redick was the leading scorer in the ACC and on a team that had 2 lottery picks-- so I guess that means we should have taken him too?
The 7 other Uconn lottery picks panned out. Villanueva Okafor Gordon Butler Rip Hamilton Ray Allen Donyell Marshall And in response to the 7 other teams that passed on Gay: "I'm going to make every one of the teams pay that passed on me." Someone will probably look really smart or really dumb when the smoke clears. Unfortunately, I think we're going to look like the fools this time and the Logo will be called a genius again.
You know what, if that was written with the usage of paragraphs it would have had more emotional pull. Bottom line is this: Gay has "upside" and "potential". That's what he have going for him. He has not played a single NBA game and we don't know how he'll develop. But one thing is for sure: We needed youth and athleticism. If it wasn't Gay, it could have been Carney. If it wasn't Carney, it could have been Brewer. Get my point? The Rockets got a solid starter in Battier, but he's no going to make the "de facto difference" that will right this ship. And with that in mind, why trade for him when Gay could potentially be groomed into a better player than Battier? "Because TMac doesn't have a lot of time left for that" True, he does have a bad back but you can't tell me that a player like Gay, with the right coach and the right team, could not become a 16/7 player after his first season. As for having faith in the people you mentioned, the only one I still have faith in is JVG. I highly doubt that this was JVG's doing. I am pretty sure, contrary to popular belief, that he would have played a rookie ...if that rookie was Brandon Roy. We got hosed because we couldn't make the deals/phonecalls. As for Howard, he's not the best and he's not the worst PF I've seen go through this organization. I am content with Howard until we find a PF capable of replacing him. Having faith in Carroll Dawson? I shake my head in disgust at him and ballless Morrey or whatever his name is. You want to trade the pick away? Fine. But at least try to get a draft pick out of the deal. At least get something back in return. A Carney or a Marcus Williams would have sufficed. This is an example of CD panicking and taking the first offer he could find. Why not try and call GS? Package #8 and Howard or Swift for Murphy. At least that fits one of JVG's need ( Forward that has a shooting touch). Why not try and call NO? Package #8 and Swift for #12 and David West and fillers? I hope that CD actually made some kind of contingency plan other than this one-sided transaction with Memphis in case someone tried to screw up his deal w/ Minnesota because, if not, that says a lot about our GM.
I think what the rockets wanted to do here is to get competitive in the short term, while failing to consider the long term stuff. I think i heard one of the articles claiming that they want to build a team around yao and tmac and they are 26 n 27 and in the peak of their performances. Acutally im beginning to see a trend here, what do all our players have in common? Community services by them. Why didn't we get rid of Rybo? Why did we get battier? Did stro do as much community services? How come JHo is still here? Are they trying to please people after the tragic season through more "Mr. Nice guy?"
Every player that is drafted, whether they are a senior/freshman in college or even a highschooler, is a "mystery box" in how they'll perform in the NBA. By that train of thought, the Rockets should trade every one of their draft picks for a mediocre player. "Yao Ming? Who knows how he'll play, he could be another Shawn Bradley... let's trade him for Eric Dampier..."
