Following Shane's upped performance in Memphis, look at his line tonight in the NJ game: S. Battier 36 min 12 pts. 4-6 FG 2-3 3pt 2-2 FT 5 Rbs 6 Asts 3 Stls I know that the Battier supporters have been dodging questions about Shane's absence on the box by referencing to his intangibles, but it's relieving to see him finally put up some numbers. This level of performance is way overdue. Whatever the donation of his intangibles may be on offense and defense, or whether his intangibles even exist, there's just no substitute for points, rebounds, assists and steals. For all the talk about his intangibles when we traded for him, we never traded for him solely for his intangibles, did we? We traded for Shane to win - whether it be the hustle, a charging call, or a timely 3. Anyway, I just hope he keeps the ball rolling.
Shane Battier had a PG statline tonight, it seriously bothers me that this guy doesnt use his all around game and doesnt shoot enough, he could easily be a 15-17 ppg player.
Battier is not play any better tonight than he did all season. He just got luckier with his shots. Battier is who we think he was.
I like shane playing like he did today. not just waiting to hit open shots, but also creating offense himself, for him and his teamates. it looks like he's breaking out of the gundy induced "you can only shoot from that corner!" malaise and getting back to playing an all around game, and playing a little looser. He was too disciplined before, and it was making him hesitant.
All I can figure is that he must read the GARM and saw the 20 threads speculating about where he was going to be traded. A guy like Battier does NOT want to leave a team like Houston!
he is a very rare one of a kind player. i just hope, he got out of his slump. we seriously need him back. how many more games until mike james is out of his?
We traded for Shane to win ! Shane is a guy whom you can not merely assess from the statistics ! he is one of the key men for future !
We need Shane to perform well at SF because I do NOT trust schizo Bonzi. The best we can hope for each game is that one of them plays decent.
Two games isn't a trend, but it could be a sign. In the interview before Memphis he knew he had to bring more to the table and he's delivered the past 2 games. I'm really happy he's done more then camp out on the perimeter on the offensive side.
I need a sign to let me know you're here All the stats lines are showing that you've disappeared I need to know things are gonna look up 'cause Rudy Gay is making me wanna throw up in my cup
I was at the game last year when he hit seven (!!) threes. That's what I call on a roll. Today, he shot well and hustled but he commits way too many fouls.
Both Memphis and New Jersey have slow defenses that are routinely slow on rotations. Battier thrives in these situations. But when the playoffs come around he isn't athletic or quick enough to compete with San Antonio, Dallas or Utah. That's where we will need Bonzi over Shane.
I agree that Shane is a very smart player. If he can come out of his shell, will be a much more dangerous weapon with his court vision and playmaking ability, both of which have been boxed up and left in the proverbial attic during his time in Houston thanks to van Gundy.
Battier's spending time at the 4 this season. Darko & Swift were out for the Grizz and they were forced to play small. Nets have a broken Jason Collins who sucks even if he wasn't broken down. Kristic is still working his way back from his injury. After that their frontcourt is nothing. This thread is a little too early. Battier needs to plays well against a team with a decent frontcourt first.
