Did all of you see this hit?People who were at the game...did it look as nice or even nicer (sorry but it was pretty damn cool..even though deron got shook up a bit.) All i know is that it was a HARD collision for both players, surprised none of them were injured or something. And by the way,by any chance, does anyone have a picture of the collision?
My points are 1- if you guys found the hit -pretty cool -intentionnal/unnecessary -dangerous -Bad call etc... Im asking for your opinions about it,and for a picture if anyone had one. Besides, its my frist thread, and i just wasn't too sure what to make of it..LOL
i thought it was pretty awesome. thats what football would look like if they didnt wear pads or helmets.
it was cool in the sense that you dont see bodies flying like that very often in the nba, especially not when theres no fighting involved! and it remains cool since deron wasn't hurt bad in the end. and no that was definitely NOT a foul. but its tough for the refs too, to not call anything. clearly from the replay both guys were just looking at the ball and not worried about collisions.. a perfect illustration of the effort and intensity that both teams put into this series. it was kinda bad when the fans started chanting stuff against utah right when deron first went down, but it was good that it got quiet quick once it was clear deron was really shaken up. and the applause was good too. funny how on the jazz forums, houston fans are now deemed classless just cause of those few dudes who were chanting crap for a second. yet they seem not to realize the class that we showed immediately after.
There's not a single player on our team, outside of Battier, who would have taken on that collision the way he did. Not one. They would have tried to reach out and tip the ball. Plus, he made sure Williams took the worst of it. And he did it all with a smile on his face. If Shane Battier played for the Jazz, we would hate him. There would be whole threads about what a b*stard he is. I'm glad he's ours.
Actually, the fans in Toyota Center really were classless when Deron Williams went down. At first, everyone was chanting "bullsh-t" right after the foul was called on Shane. But it was quickly apparent that Deron was hurt bad. Rather than shutting up and showing some class (bad call or no), most of the fans (especially in the upper deck, where I was) just PILED ON, only at that point starting the "Utah Sucks" chant while half of the Jazz team was huddled around a motionless Williams. My dad and I kept looking around and telling the people in our section to show some class and shut up. But almost no one did. Only right when Deron was getting up did anyone show any class and applaud him. Even then, it was only about half of the crowd. The other half actually BOOED! I have to tell you, I was ashamed to be a Rockets fan at that moment. One of the things that has defined this franchise has been the classy fans. I have always been proud of that. But the crowd at Toyota Center last night, in those two minutes, set us Rockets fans back in the eyes of the NBA. I would have expected that from some other cities, but not Houston. Fans in Utah are justifiably upset with our behavior. It was classless. Here's hoping that we can show more class in the (hopefully) many more Rockets home games throughout these playoffs.
This is the playoffs, save your sympathy for Deron AFTER the series. I felt just as bad for him as anyone, and I sincerely hope he is ok AFTER the series.
cool? yea right I would call the same, Daron was hit pretty bad, but it was unintentional...and the foul had to be called on someone
There's a difference between the crowd having playoff intensity and being classless. I'm not saying Battier shouldn't have gone after the ball. Hell, I was cheering as loud as anyone when Battier had that HARD foul on Boozer denying him an easy dunk. But the behavior of the fans was abhorrent. I'm not rooting for Deron Williams. But I'm not going to cheer for him to be seriously injured.
The Bullsh-t chant was directed at the call, which was a bad call. I see no problem with that. I don't see how you can be mad at a Utah Sucks chant, that's like getting mad at a Grass is Green chant, in that it's obvious fact no matter who's laying on the floor motionless. j.k.
the bs chant was about the call it was a loose ball its hard to call it on one player or the other. the utah sucks came afterwards, honestly i dont couldnt see what happened in terms of how hard he got hit and hurt. thought he got the wind knock out of him, but after he was down a lot longer than he should have been. we (at least the rowdies i was with) stop and started clapping when he stood up. everyone in our area/section was clapping i am not too sure about the other parts of the arena though. deron williams is the only guy on that jazz team i like i hope he can get out of that horrible franchise asap.
I agree with Bima here. On the TNT broadcast the mics were picking up a few idiots yelling that Williams was a p***y and all sorts of other crap. It definitely was annoying and I think that was why Stockton made a comment about the classy fans who cheered when he got up. That hit looked brutal for Deron and he is a great player. Everyone should have been respectful. He is a great payer and deserves better. Besides do you really want him to be hurt so Jazz fans and Barkley and others can say him not playing was the reason the Rockets advanced?
Not justifying the crowd because I was there, but it was a horrible call. I don't understand how a foul could be called on two players colliding going after a loose ball. Jump ball maybe???? The fans were really emotional and initially just booed the hell out of the REFS.....then a minute or so passed and the "Utah Sucks" chant started. They clapped after he(Williams) got up and walked away. Classless is a lil deep...too deep. It was an emotional game
Anyone else find it ironic that a poster named BimaThug is reproaching people for not showing more class?
