These two guys are going to cause havoc on other teams, they will combine for more charges taken than any other two players in the NBA. Furthermore, Scola will be the clear-cut #3 offensive option before the season is over with. That guy is the steal of this young century. Any suggested nicknames for these two?

I should also add that the Yao/Scola tag team is going to be great to watch. I really think Scola does a great job of being very active around the rim and with time will be proven enough that teams will have to take some pressure off Yao defensively or Scola will burn them (jumpers, beautiful jump hook/footwork, he has it all really). I love Chuck, but he's a bona fide bench player on any other team in the league, and Scola will finally give him the chance to play a role that suits his talents a bit more.

Am I the only one who doesn't equate 'taking a charge' with 'flopping'? To me they are 2 different things.

I haven't seen enough of Scola yet to tell if he is a flopper (I fear he might be :( ) but Battier and Chuck are 100% charge takers. They get in position and basically get... well, charged into. By a player at full speed.

You can't say that's the same as what Manu does. He is in my top 5 least respected players, his 'defense' is just a disgrace. Any contact and he flies across the court...

They're both really good at it and it helps us cause we get a lot of steals that way. Remember Tracy can do that (but he mustn't) and Hayes' also very good in takin' charges

No you're not. Taking a charge is a pure defensive play that's just as valuable as a steal (and more valuable than a blocked shot, because it guarantees a loss of possession for your opponent).

"Flopping" would be more like exaggerating contact/creating the illusion of contact to draw a favorable call. But a charge is a defensive stop, and it's very, very valuable in a basketball game.

I think that comes from Agentina being a soccer country. In soccer world, there's a lot of flopping going on as well.

And also do you guys remember Scola's between-the-leg assist to Yao in the last preseason game? It's a big deal in soccer to dribble past your defender between his legs. They must've inherited some soccer in their blood.

I predict Chuck Hayes takes more charges than Scola and commits far fewer fouls per 40 minutes than Scola.

    ;)

Haha, what? Why am I prejudice?

When I used Manu as an example, it wasn't because he was from Argentina. He was just the first to come to mind.
