No. 2: Shane Battier, small forward, Duke. No surprise here.Battier was good before and after the passing of the millenium; he ledthe Blue Devils to a national runner-up in 1999 and a national title in2001, when he swept the national player of the year awards. (Battierhas become universally recognized as underrated in the NBA, but therewas no such trend in college.) In four years, Battier establishedhimself as one of the best college hoops players of all-time.

Nice to see someone like shane getting recognition for what he accomplished in college.

wow that is a horribly written, i guess they forgot to edit.....I thought dixon would have more success in the NBA, at least as a solid starter, but he never got it going...

Someone had a definite North Carolina bias there... There are players that did much much more that aren't on that list... how about getting your team to the NCAA finals three years in a row... how about winning two chips in a row...

I could have come up with a much better list.

i think it's because Durant won several individual national collegiate awards, including the big one, and melo's awards were mostly regional and/or freshman awards.

also i think Melo was good during the season, but didn't blow up until the tournament, while durant was better year round...i may be wrong on that one though..

What's the point of being good in college if you are going to suck beyond belief in the pros? Don't really understand these arguments, you are only as good as how you translate at the highest level.

b/c the argument is at the collegiate level, don't make it more than it is, you l dismiss laettner's college career because he wasnt a great pro or even dixon's...prob the same thing with hansbrough..

Who is the #1 guy? never heard of ;) ;) . Just check his NBA career, drafted at 13th, but not playing better than Chase

College is somewhat treated a different sport than the pro level to an extent. There is a bunch of fans that only follow college sports but don't care for the pros for whatever reason. Certain players translate better to the pros but don't have the best of college careers and vice versa so I think its fair to view college sports as a different entity than the pros.

I took the bait. All kinds of things can happen, getting injured in college but healthy in the pros actually doing better. Injuries derailing someone's pro career. Stacked college teams where their 4th option can still has lotto pick potential. Knuckleheads getting kicked off their college team but putting it together in the pros.

You probably could say it, but it'd be like saying a Euroleague player's career doesnt mean anything if he didnt translate his success in the NBA.

I have no problem with the top two guys, but after you read the article you sort of understand the problem inherent in that sort of a comparison--how can you ever compare a one-and-done with a three or four-year tenured player in the NBA? I mean, Griffin Beasley and Durant had respectively probably the three best individual seasons each of the last years, but you cannot really put them on the all-decade list in my mind since their overall stats are so much less than those that stayed in college to work on their game. Durant would definitely make the top 10 list just because his season was absolutely unprecedented, but after that I would have to give the nod to players that had stayed on more years than they had.

Beasley broke all kinds of records in college. Why isn't he in the top 10?
