The Orlando Magic have agreed to trade power forward Drew Gooden, Steven Hunter and the rights to second-round draft pick Anderson Varejao of Brazil to the Cleveland Cavaliers for center/forward Tony Battie . Hunter, a free agent, had to be signed to a new contract before the deal becomes official later today. Battie, 6-11, 240, averaged 5.6 points and 4.9 rebounds last season, playing in both Boston and Cleveland. Gooden averaged 11.6 points and 6.5 rebounds last season, hif first full year in Orlando. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...304,1,7808151.story?coll=orl-sports-headlines
Where did that come from? Well, there goes the option of sending one of our PFs to Cleveland for Battie and/or McGinnis. We can also strike Hunter off the backup 5 list. I'm kind of puzzled why Orlando is making this move. They're giving up pretty quickly on a young, decent 4 in Gooden to get a clone of Cato for the 4/5.
is steve hunter even that good? and the 2nd round pick means nothing. Not a bad deal i guess. our list of avaliabe centers keeps getting shorter and shorter.
How fast has drew gooden's stock fallen? Jerry West's golden boy to now spare parts use to acquire Tony Battie? BTW, just to be a forum protocol nazi for a second, can we stop putting non-rox FA/trade news in GARM? Just because somebody dreamcasted that we should get Battie doesn't make it Rocks news when he goes elsewhere.
Holy Cow! Drew Gooden, Stephen Hunter and a one of the Magic's draft picks for Battie?! Battie is a nice player but damn! He sure as hell is not that good. Stephen Hunter is still just a pup and can block shots with the best of them. He had a damn good game against Yao Ming last year in Houston. Drew Gooden? He has been a good power forward every place he has played but always seems to get moved to small forward where he has problems. He may not be Carlos Boozer but certainly not a bad replacement. I don't know anything at all about Anderson Varejao but if he turns into anything at all then this deal looks extreamly lop sided. I would think that Gooden and Battie are a wash if not a slight advantage to Gooden.
You are kidding/killing me. A younger/better pf + second round pick for an older/worse pf? What kind of deal is this? If the hockey guy does this, why didn't he trade T-mac to us for Wilks? Fire CD!
Pretty much Gooden for Battie, Gooden should FINALLY work out in Cleveland, the Magic get some more post defense/rebounding. The more important aspect of this is that the Rockets have no chance at getting Battie or Hunter anymore.
Sam, I just wanted to say that I was not trying to get personal with you in the other thread. If that is how you perceived it then I appologize but it was not my intent. We just had different perspectives thats all.
I posted it here because every other thread created here over the last 2 weeks has had some mention of Battie being a Rocket... Feel free to move this thread to the NBA Dish if necessary...
no problem, my bad as well. I'm not blaming you, it's just a trend that a busybody like me feels an obligation to whine about because I am not doing anything at work right now.
The more I think about it, the more I believe this: Weisbrod is a masochist. He got this probably by playing too much hockey.
Nothing to worry about! Let CD sleep through this FA period!! CD probably feels he can fill our needs in the CBA!!!
