In the script, the batmobile is an experimental military vehicle called the Tumbler. I think it looks like a riding lawn mower. There should be a dude sitting on top cutting a field with that thing. I mean, it looks menacing in a way, and I'll bet that it's not the finished product, ie this is the tumbler before it is turned into the batmobile, I just don't see this thing getting any better with a few bat panels. Jeeze, how is batman supposed to take a corner in a city street with this thing? It's posted at the official website http://batmanbegins.warnerbros.com/page.html
LOL, good one outlaw. Actually, one of the descriptions of it a few months back was a Hummer crossed with a Lamborghini. Another was a Hummer and a Stealth fighter, which is pretty accurate looking at these pics.
Ah....Im confused. Whats this stuff about the military....wasnt Batman a loner who basically built his own stuff?
Actually, Bruce Wayne/Batman misappropriates a lot of things from Wayne Enterprises to use as Batman, such as technology, gadgets, vehicles, etc. This thing is designed by his company to be sold to the military. From what I've read, in the movie, the people who are running the Wayne company put this thing on the shelf. Bruce learns about it from Morgan Freeman's character who takes him for a ride in it.
Interesting. It looks similar to the Batmobile from "The Dark Knight Returns," but without the tank treads.
My initial reaction is that I don't like it...but it seems everyone involved with this film has done nothing but made the correct decisions here lately, so I will reserve judgement for now. Perhaps it will fit in nicely with the rest of the movie.
I agree, this is the first thing that I havent been estatic over. I think it looks stupid. I could see if it was a different vehicle for Batman but not the batmobile. The batmobile is supposed to be fast and slick, not a tank.
I've always associated the Batmobile with the one from the cartoon, Batman: The Animated Series. I mean, with movies you see it for 20 minutes. But those hours of afternoon cartoons can really stick an image in your mind. So the batmobile for this new movie just doesn't look right. There's none of that exaggerated too-long-to-drive-on-road feel that I with batmobiles.
I think it's great. The new franchise is really getting away from fantasy type stuff, and focusing on Batman as a real guy who could really do all these things. Driving a virtual tank is consistent with that, I think. And it does look like the car from Dark Knight, which is awesome. Everything I read about this movie convinces me that, after all these years, we're finally going to get the sort of treatment the character deserves. (I don't care what anyone says -- the Burton movies were HORRIBLE.) I couldn't be happier.
WTF is that!? That thing is hideous! The one in Batman Returns was the best. The one in Batman and Robin was horrible. I hope that's not the main car he drives in the next one. Batman - Good Batman Returns - BETTER Batman Forever - Can't remember it too clearly but I don't think it was as good as Returns. Batman and Robin - No, no, no...BAD!
