I'm looking for a spot on the West Side.
Westheimer - I'm gonna check out the
24 Fitness Gym on San Felipe

    I prefer some place free
some place with some good competition
    but not necessarily CBA players
[I'm not in the best shape in the world]

I'm looking for indoor places myself. Since I'm taking summer school at UH, I'm gonna try out their gym.

Does anyone know what Fonde's rules are?

Can anyone jump in and play with the NBA guys.

Obviously I(Or most) couldn't take the NBA players, but I would just want to try it for a game or two.

Rocket River, sorry to go off from the topic... but... why are there no basketball courts/goals in sub-divisions, especially the nice ones? All you see is a bunch of tennis courts. [IMG]

That's easy enough to answer...pick up basketball is considered an "urban" game, and the majority of players that play in pick up games are African-American. The majority of people that live in the nice subdivisions are caucasian...

You can fill in the rest...

Me and a bunch of guys from work have been playing at this church just south of the corner of Cypresswood and Aldine Bender (or Aldine Westfield - I get them confused). But, we only play after work on Tuesday nights, usually from around 11:30pm to 3:00am. It's the only court we have been able to find that is lit all night and is near our job.

If anyone wants to show up tonight (or any Tuesday night) around midnight, I'll be there hooping it up (to say what I do loosely). None of us are very good. In fact, I may be the best ballplayer out there, which is much more telling of the competition than my skills.

    This is very true IMO

Golf Course and Tennis Court RULE around
    westheimer and wilcrest area.
finding a b-ball court is hard
there is even a fricking baseball
field at church down the street.

My subdivision had two basketball goals in the park. The backboards are still up but the hoops were taken down. Now on the backboards it says "NO SOLICITATION".

Hehe. Don't go there unless you have serious game. And no, you probably won't be allowed within whiffing distance of actually getting to play against NBA players. It used to be that the "mere mortals" hung around out there during night games to impress people... once your legend grew, they may let you run with the big boys. But don't go there thinking you'll jump in and play with Hakeem or something. [IMG] There are probably millions of people just like you that would like to run with NBA players for "a game or two". It ain't gonna happen unless things have changed DRASTICALLY. Some of those guys make NBA players look silly out there.

When I lived in Houston I played at the Post Oak YMCA, the games are from 11am -2pm and 4pm to 7pm most week days.

Good competition, but not as good as the guys I play with now at the YMCA here in Austin.

    I figured.

I didn't really plan on playing, really just wondering.

Those guys(Even just the pickup guys) would eat me for lunch(And Dinner...)

Would they just let me watch/hang around?

I've seen Cassell there playing with some younger kids around my age. I was hoping for an opportunity like that.

I was there about 4 years ago for the Murph Summer Camp and the facilities are great for a place with public membership.

DREAMer, ever play at the court on Frick road? Its off of Antoine, north of Ike [IMG] I used to play there a lot, some real good competition there.

I used to play at that Cypresswood court when I lived in H-Town. It started getting real crowded the last few times I played there. One of the Houston Oiler running backs (can't remember the guys name) used to play up there a lot.

    BobFinn*,

You know, I lived in Inwood Pines (off Antoine) for a little over ten years, and I never even heard of that court. I even went to Eisenhower, and I couldn't tell you where Frick Rd. is.... Lesse, Gulf Bank, West Montgomery... those are the only streets I know of north of Ike.

Well, I hope no one went out there tonight. Those friggin' losers at my job pussed out and didn't play. I was really looking forward to playing tonight too.

There is a good court at Godwin Park, located near S. Rice and S. Braeswood, just outside loop 610 on the southwest side in Meyerland. It is next to Kolter Elementary school. It's an outdoor court, but they get alot of good games going there with really good talent. It's not uncommon to see players lined up 2 and 3 deep waiting to get into a game, especially on weekend mornings.

Down the street from FB Baptist and next to the baseball fields? I think the church that you mentioned is St Theresa's. Played there a few times a good while back.

Went there a few times back in the day. Seemed like solid competition.

Mary Bates or the courts behind Crump Stadium?
