so i've been playing one on one with my friend for a couple of month. i am right handed and suck at left hand, so i almost always drive to the right. while i can score at ease, he has it figured out. so now, he guards he on my right hand path. i still drive right handed and scores fine. i prefer not shoot jumpers. any advise besides the obvious work on left hand? i ask because, i bump into him a lot these days, not lowering shounder or anything. is that a foul on him? it's getting annoying.
be nice. i can shoot jumpers. wasn't implying that i can't shoot. i just want to get a work out. if i shoot jumpers against my friend, it'll won't be much of a game. one time i made 11 jumpers to beat him.
I used to be really bad at going left too, I'd go left but try to finish with my right hand still. Plus the Kleenex didn't really clean up the mess that well. Wait what are we talking about again?
Just dribble back and forth over and over again, or maybe even in little circles, until your friend gets tired and then you can blow by him for the layup. Seriously though, just start practicing with your left hand. You can pick it up pretty quickly if you practice consistently. There really isn't another good answer other than this.
Always force your man to his left until he proves to you he can beat you to the left. I wish I had figured that out sooner. As for going left yourself - it's like anything else, force yourself to go left until you are proficient. You WILL get frustrated but it will pay off in the end.
go towards your right, then make a spin move towards the right to go back one or two steps then shoot the fadeaway jumpshot... ...i hope that made sense
thanks for all the replies. and i'm way older than 13. just never really worked on it. i mean, i can dribble with it, but it always come back to my right. ya, i am going to work on it.
well get this, i write with my left hand, shoot with my right, drive to the left and only finish with my right while jumping off my left. god i need some skills.
Left handed layups over and over and over. You'll be a totally different animal once you develop that skill. Just keep practicing 2 or hard dribbles left and finish strong with the left hand, lay it up like it was your right hand, sooner than you would think your brain will adapt. Your friend will find you virtually unguardable.
Try some spins or trick dribbling to get him off balance, such as spins off drives, dream shakes, up and under, between the legs, etc. Once he's off balance, you can blow by him easily. Or work on dribbling with your left hand.
Pactice some specialty moves that have you move left, but shoot with your right hand.... such as crossover spin move, fadeaway, dream shake, etc. ... I like the reverse layup. It's not particularly difficult to master and most non-pros aren't looking for it or don't know how to defend it. And if they figure out how to defend it, switch it up with a regular layup and it throws them off.
grab a basketball go to your drive way dribble back and forth with just your left hand look up do it for 20 minutes a day for a month.... then practice moves and then try them in pick up games
Routine would say reference the "fruity picks" thing from the Prince sketch of Chappelle Show, but I prefer this old gem: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9lKr7R4t4y0&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9lKr7R4t4y0&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
