Basketball General Manager and Scouting Course

So you are saying if I take that degree to Rockets mgmt they won't laugh at me?

 

I would take that course just so the next time I put forth my Rafer, Novak, and Francis for LeBron trade, nobody would dare to laugh at me again.

 

Is this stuff legit? It seems a little iffy, but when I had seson tickets for the Hornets the guy who kind of took care of us and other season ticket holders said he went to some sports management school in Oregon. Has anyone here done anything like that?

When I worked at the Rockets, a few of our employees came to us from Game Face - but my feeling was that most of them ended up working in sales - sponsorship, tickets, suites - instead of what most people think of as sports front office jobs (scouting, etc.)

If you want my advice - if you want to get into the basketball side of a front office, learn how to build and manage databases.

$1500 price tag isn't so outlandish. Price of a decent vacation. If they can teach interesting behind the scenes tidbits, I don't know that I won't be interested. Maybe they could teach me about double negatives.

FWIW, the only people I've known to actually work in front office jobs w/professional sports team actually went to college and got sports management degrees. It seems pretty hard to get a job for some people, though. I have a buddy who is real smart and even got a masters degree in sports management from LSU. It took him a couple of years to find a job and after all that it was in minor league baseball. I doubt taking an online course is going to do much for your resume.

 

what schools offer degrees in sports management? there seems to be a slim amount to me
