okay, I was going to post this in the Texans, Astros, Comets thing, but since it doesnt really have anything to do with the teams, but rather the game in general, im putting it in here. I've always heard about pitchers throwing in simulated games in spring training or rehabbing, but have never really known what it is. Can someone please explain?
it's a pitcher throwing to a couple of batters, who take turns hitting. There's no baserunning involved, but if the batter's get a hit, then the pitcher must pitch as if there are base runners. he keeps throwing till he gets three outs, then rests for a few minutes, then goes back out there for the next inning. Like a regular game, only the pitcher is the only one playing.
Thanks Behad. so does the pitcher usually use his regular assortment of pitches to try to get the batters out or is it jus something like all fastballs. i.e. does the catcher call for different pitches to get whover the pitcher is facing out? and who calls the balls and strikes during this, the coaches?
That depends on the pitvher. If it's a simulated game, then most likely the pitcher is rehabilitating some injury, and most likely is limited in some way (all fastballs, or not throwing at 100%)...as for balls and strikes, I would assume the catcher calls them, he has the best view.
