Join Us July 11, 2002 MLB FAN STRIKE is an organized group of Baseball Fans Nationwide who have come together to boycott Major League Baseball because of the continued threat of a Players Strike. MLB FAN STRIKE is scheduled to take place on JULY 11, 2002, and is to include all scheduled games in all cities on that date. The purpose of the strike is to send a message to both the Players and the Owners that we are FED UP with the labor problems in Baseball! Empty stadiums on July 11 will send a very powerful message. Fans pay for the MLB! Don’t mess with us! WHAT CAN YOU DO? As a Fan, we ask that on July 11, you unite with us and support the MLB FAN STRIKE: Don’t go to any MLB games on July 11, 2002 Don’t watch ANY games on TV, or purchase any MLB Properties products Don’t listen to ANY games on the radio. Don’t use any MLB internet services, including listening to games via the internet. Pass the word to your baseball friends TOGETHER, we can make a difference! http://mlbfanstrike.com/
Ummm, a one-day strike is not going to have ANY effect whatsoever. All it shows is that you were able to go one day without baseball but were more than willing to come back the very next day. I think this is a badly thought out plan.
One day is better than no day. I will join the picket line. I will also strike a day for everyday the players strike. And I thought this was for the allstar game......
I agree. Maybe they should have had a plan like boycott the rest of the season. It probably won't be played to its conclusion anyway. The website was set up May 21, 2002. Not near enough time to spread the word enough to affect anything.
What I want is for all these people who say that they'll never watch the game again to live up to their words. I'll say it right now...if they strike, or the players get locked out, I'll be in front of the television the first game back.
Sorry...can't do it. I love baseball regardless. Coupled with the fact that my friend got me dugout tickets to tomorrow's game...and i've only been to like 5 games in my life.
I don't know a lot of baseball history, but I do remember the Astros calling up a replacement player named McMurtry or something. Teammates treated him like **** cause he was a scab. Is he available?
I won't watch a single game this week or buy any MLB products. I can't make any promises for Sunday or Monday of next week. B
i enjoy the game of baseball, pure and simple. if they trot it out and i have an opportunity to go, i'll buy a ticket. i can't deny the fact i love the game...i'll be back for more after the strike...no labor union or greedy owner can change how i feel about this game.
To me baseball sucks anyways, so yeah I'll go along with the fan strike. I tried watching baseball this year, but the regular seson is just so freakin boring. I still love the Yankees and I've seen some of their games. I just cant fathom the fact that there are a 162 freakin games. So if your team losses one day who the hell cares? I'll still be around for playoff and some Yankee trash talk though.
the fact that the regular season has meaning is among the many reasons i like baseball...you only have 8/30 teams going to the playoffs...not 16/30 like in the NBA or NHL. getting to the playoffs is an honor in baseball...it's hardly that in basketball. we talk in basketball about the "real season" starting when the playoffs start...it's literally like a whole other season. not so in baseball...
Well, it's raining pretty good now in downtown Houston. Maybe this will kill the walk-up crowd for the Astros game and make it look like the fans really are striking.
This afternoon's game between Atlanta and Montreal (@ Montreal) had an attendance of 11,855. Thats a sellout for the Expos isn't it? Maybe the boycott is for games played in the USA only.
Can the players and owners sue the fans for collusion? I hope they don't strike. It would kill me, and they may lose me as a fan. Like they care.
