It seems like if bars want to get you drunk they should take the responsibility of letting you have a place to chill out till you are ok. They were kicking this one dude out who was just falling down and the bouncer seemed to have regard for the safety of the patron.
Know your limit so you won't have to be "that one guy at the bar". Honestly if you're having a few drinks at least make sure you're going to get home safe and oh yeah i'm drunk as i'm typing this ....Go Manny!!!!!!!!!
We're not babysitters you know. You want us to serve you all night long, take your keys if you're drunk AND put you up until you're un-drunk...just so you can have a falling down fun time? If you're going to pass that responsibility to us, we'll be charging you twice what you pay for a Shiner. The point is just be responsible for yourself. (I say "us" as a reference to my history of bartending and proprietorship)
Why should they have to take responsibility? I think bars want you to drink, but not get so drunk that they have to kick you out, hence the whole kicking you out part.
I am not saying they need to take responsibility, but if they keep on serving you till you can't walk then obviously there should be some liability on their end. I believe they can get sued under liquor liability provisions. Most bouncers don't know, but the owners should be wiser.
Most of the bars I've been to if they see that you're too drunk they just cut you off and give you water. However, if you're picking fights being obnoxious they will throw you out. If a guy was falling down they should have told his friends that he needs to go, but if he was by himself call him a cab imo.
I agree that the bar has some responsibility and the courts seem to agree. But in reality, the patron has to know when enough is enough and cut themselves off. I was at BW3 last friday and there was a dude that was "having a good time". He was drinking with his friends, extremely loud, yet seemed to be atleast tipsy. He seemed to be a regular, and the waittress was made sure a constant line of booze (beer and shots) kept heading his way. The longer it went, the louder and more obnoxious he got. Basically screaming at the top of his lungs to talk to his friend right next to him. I asked for my check and got the hell out of there as I couldn't take it much longer. I usually see the regulars getting served until they can't stand while other patrons are cut off at a resonable time. Bartenders and wait staff want to keep that dependable tip coming from the regulars, so they get the benefit of the doubt.
Partly true. Big tippers are well liked. But like you said, he is a regular and as such, we would know a lot about him like who his friends are, his history at the bar, weather he's celabrating an special occassion, etc. Where as a stranger would get less considerations.
