Barry choosing between Spurs & Blazers

This on espn.com. Check out the last paragraph, very interesting!

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1837273

    Free agent considering 4-year deals

Unrestricted free agent guard Brent Barry will decide in the next few days whether to sign with the Portland Trail Blazers or San Antonio Spurs, a source told ESPN's David Aldridge on Friday. Both teams have offered the 32-year-old Barry four-year contracts, which other teams like his current employers, the Seattle SuperSonics, would not do. The Sonics offered Barry a three-year deal worth $18 million.

Barry ranked second in the NBA last season shooting 45.2 percent from 3-point range. He averaged 10.8 points and 5.8 assists in 59 games with the Sonics in 2003-04.

If Barry leaves Seattle, the Sonics are likely to end discussions with the Houston Rockets on a potential trade of guard Antonio Daniels for future draft picks.

    geez

hmmm ... get's discouraging ... IF this is accurate.

from going to thinking we could have Barry or Fisher (Rudy is talking to him to convince him to stay), Wagner and/or Diop or Battie, to Skinner ... to maybe none of our wishes.

    wild off-season ... although, I' m very glad I'm not Cleveland.

I wonder what Matt Jackson is talking about, as far as hearing who our PG will be this weekend?

So if Barry signs with one of those teams, we miss out on Barry and Daniels?

    That's not good.

Hopefully we could still get Fisher, but hey... now I find myself wishing Seattle would pony it up so we can get Daniels. Not like our first-rounders will be worth anything for the next decade. :D

If Manu reups with the Spurs, then I don't see how Barry fits in there.

No huge loss for us. Hopefully we can work that much harder on Hudson or Fisher.

    wow, very interesting

Daniels Stats - 4.2 assists, 2.0 turnovers per game

shot 36% behind the line last year and 47% from everywhere else in only 21.3 minutes.

Not a bad guy to have but i doubt Barry resigns with seattle

I think what it is saying is that if the Sonics resign Barry, then they will trade Daniels. I dont think it was both.

Lue & Jones would be good. We can always pick up a better PG another year.

Barry is a greedy b*stard if he sign with Blazers...cuz there is not hope of winning a championship in Portland. A true competitor always want to win Championship and will foregone $$ for the ring ....like Payton and Malone did....Barry is probably not a true competitor.

San Antonio will probably start him at the 2 to replace Turkoglu and keep Ginobili as the 6th man. And I'm glad those Antonio Daniels talks would be over because I really think that guy sucks, I've never liked his game. We need to really try and get Fisher and if that doesn't work out, Hudson.

I guess the Rockets never offered a 4 year deal (maybe they didn't offer any deal) for Barry.

    Please no Hudson.....

    I'll take Jones please.

I wonder why the Rockets were not even on his final list? Guess he doesn't like strippers, no income tax and waves in Galveston that are the color of coffee.

I'm beginning to like jones too. he's cheaper and we could use the rest of our cap left in going for a quality big guy..

Or maybe he just wants to stay in the Pacific Northwest. True competitor blah, blah, blah. Playing basketball is a job and a lifestyle for these guys, and there are more factors involved than just winning. You think Payton and Malone would have taken huge paycuts with the Lakers if they hadn't bagged such huge multi-million dollar contracts already in their career?

    Blessing in disguise.

If there were ever an offseason to skip on signing big name free agents, this is it. The benchmark has been set way too high.

Get a cheap temporary point guard for the season like Damon Jones or Bob Sura.
