I have a friend who is a Miami Heat fan and his only comment to me about Baron Davis went something as follows : You want to see what you hope Steve Francis can become? Check out Baron Davis. ------------------ "I give up. Oh my holy hell I give up." -- Clutch expresses utter frustration in encountering difficulties trying to communicate across a damn bbs. (It's even funnier if you picture Homer Simpson saying it)
dr of dunk, I love Baron but I think your friend exaggerated a little and has probably seen too little of Steve to make that presumption. Baron has a shaky jumper which is really the only weak part of his game but Steve whenever they play just seems to be able to outdo him, not by much but none the less does beat him. They are very similar Steve has the speed on him while Davis is more powerful. To think Baron Davis is so good that Steve should look at him as a player he wants to emulate is ridiculous. Also it does help yor stats when you play with Jamal Mashburn and Davis Wesley who are on fire this year. If he didnt have those player his numbers would fall DRAMATICALY.Also he plays in the EAST, nough' said. ------------------
TPL, I'm glad somebody agrees with me. My main point-of-contention was that the Davis plays most of his games in the East. No centers outside of Mutombo means he can drive to his heart's content, whereas over in the West you have trees at center and then have to worry about some strong PF's as well. From what I've seen of Baron, though, he's pretty impressive. I haven't noticed his jumpshot much, but he does rack up assists and does seem to be unselfish, but that's just from watching 2 or 3 of his games. ------------------ "I give up. Also, unlike Stevie in Houston, Baron isn't exactly the leader of that team and with Wesley on the floor, isn't even the full-time floor leader. With guys like Mashburn, Wesley, Campbell, Coleman all with extensive experience, Davis clearly has a lot less pressure than Francis does. Especially last year when both Dream and Charles went down. I think Andre Miller, while a different mold of a PG, might be a better comparison. Azim da Dream ------------------ We don't live for the destination. Steve gets no respect anymore. I was watching a hawks game and the announcers started comparing point guards drafted in 1999. they had Miller, Davis, and Terry and were comparing them. Steve was not mentioned. I'm thinking that steve would have made the other 3 look pretty pathetic, so they didnt include him. ------------------ Hakeem, Hasaw, Haconquered.
I think they probably didnt include him because many people stupidly think of him as a 2 for some reason and being "Hawks" announcers I doubt their knowledge of the game. On the other hand maybe they think Steve is on another level than the guys they mentioned. Also all the point guards he mentioned play in the East, and aside from Francis all the good point guards from last years class did play in the East so maybe they just forgot him. Steve does get respect around the league. He and Cuttino are down with about every player in the L, excluding the Jazz of course.Alot of other teams fans make stupid comments about Steve that they have heard only from the media and accept it as a truth. They say he is a ballhog who is a selfish player which any Rockets fans who has watched a game knows is not true.Francis is an allstar, that not just a biassed opinion as a Rockets fan. Ive watched Stockton and Finley alot and they just dont impress me as much as Steve. Anybody else see in yesterdays game where Steve called a timeout and then Finley tried to steal the ball and Steve acted like he was gonna throw the ball at him? Me and my friend laughed our ass off, not as much as that Mo Taylor dunk though ------------------ [This message has been edited by tacoma park legend (edited December 31, 2000).]
Considered a 2? What about Jason Terry? He's exploded not as a point guard, but rather as their shooting guard. ------------------ Nederland 2002 Rocketman95 on board. Check out his latest game recaps.
That's exactly right, terry has excelled as a 2 guard. the hawks were playing cleveland and the announcers thought andre miller was a god. He would make a shot, and they would yell,"ANDRE MILLER HAS JUST TAKEN OVER THIS GAME. THIS KID IS INCREDIBLE." Just thought that was a slight overreaction. ------------------ Hakeem, Hasaw, Haconquered.
