http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?blogid=39&entry_id=27732 Huge surprise: Baron Davis opts out From Janny Hu. Just got word that Baron Davis has unexpectedly exercised his opt-out clause, foregoing the $17.8 million due him next season, and making him a free agent as of tomorrow. (The Clippers' Elton Brand just did the same). More details to come ASAP, but at the very least, this puts the Warriors' back at the negotiating table with their franchise PG, and perhaps makes a sign-and-trade more likely.
Whoa boy! I wonder if BD is worried about his long-term health. I also wonder if he and Nellie have a broken relationship. There was something wrong with the Warriors as the season ended. They had no mojo or chemistry at all and that caused the slide which made them miss the playoffs. I guess a SnT will be worked out with his new team.
Yup, just heard this on LA's 570 AM Sports Radio. The said that the Clippers might try to make a run at him since Brand and Maggette have opted out. The were discussing the possible rumors that Brand will allow the Clippers to signed BD first, and then take a pay-cut and resign with the team. Interesting....
Methinks Baron is looking for some sucker GM to give him a 5+ year deal so he can give them 1 1/2 good seasons (over the course of 3 seasons) and collect his checks while wearing a suit after that.
after seeing the deal arenas is getting i'm pretty sure this is a good idea on baron's part. he played a full year for the first time in 4 years and now is the right time for him to move on a longer term deal if he can get it.
Ever hear of "sign and trade"? There is a 99% chance this is what happens. Why? (1) It's the only way BD gets a big contract. (2) The Warriors can't afford to let BD walk without getting something in return.
Yep, they didn't want to give him an extension. They were banking on him not opting out because they would give them time to look for another PG. He's all they have so they have to re-up his deal or risk losing him to another team.
I guess he's planning on playing a year for free. I can't imagine him being able to recoup $17 mill on a new contract sooner than at least 1 1/2 years. He has to be planning on being injured and sitting around in order to make hay on a longer term deal. BDiddy is all risk at this point. Just don't see it. Clippers?? THey gonna give him $50 mill/5 year deal? I would think that would be the limit for them.
