http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/articles/2009/03/01/hawks_try_to_get_homed_in/?page=3 I found these two items interesting - the top seemed as if it could have been written for last nite's, and other, Rocket 4thQs and the other? Well, Baron instead of Lowry and Artest? Pierce also says the Lakers are tougher now than they were in last year's Finals. "You look at them, how intense they are, and what's happening is people got toughness misunderstood," Pierce said. "It's not you pushing people, you pulling people to the ground. It's a mental part of the game where you get through the grind, grabbing rebounds, you're defending at a high level. "You're playing through the grind of the game and that's what toughness is, and I thought we had that better than anybody in the league last year." Clipped in the bud Before the Rockets sent Rafer Alston to Orlando at the trade deadline, there was a deal on the table that could have sent Clippers guard Baron Davis to Houston for Alston and Ron Artest, according to an NBA source. Originally, the Rockets wanted Clippers center Marcus Camby but Los Angeles declined. The source said the Rockets' loss of Tracy McGrady to a knee injury just before the trade deadline killed the trade conversation with the Clippers. An NBA source said that if the Magic hadn't acquired Alston, they would have attempted to trade for suspended Indiana guard Jamaal Tinsley. Tinsley is not expected to get waived by today's deadline, which means he wouldn't be eligible to play in the playoffs for a team that acquires him. Marc J. Spears can be reached at mspears@globe.com
dude a better title would have been Rockets tried trading for Camby, because it was already reported they almost traded for Baron, but i'm not sure if there was any mention of Camby...
I think we all assumed it was McGrady for Davis and contracts though.... Man Davis and McGrady on the same team? Might as well add Iverson too.
It was reported that it was Tmac, i dont think it was just assumptions, the rockets basically wanted camby for ron and alston, but the clipps wanted baron gone instead, and wanted tmac in return. We all knew of the clipps proposed deal, but didn't know what Houston initially proposed to them.
Yeah camby for ron and alston, but he put Baron in the title, i dont think it was ever baron for alston and ron, it was Baron for tmac, which is what was reported back then.
It doesn't say whether the Rockets proposed Artest for Baron Davis. Only that it was on the table (maybe that's what the Clippers were asking for, and we refused).
I don't remember there ever being clear 'news' (reports) about Rox and Clips, or any other team and Rox (except for Carter deal, which I have been told was all NJ sided, not Rox considered).
Clippers value Camby's contract. Why would they rent Artest for 1 year to clear significantly less cap space while holding on to Rafer Alston to put behind Davis? If that was a genuine offer its clear the Rockets made it.
That's pretty close to my reaction to a BD/McG paring. Owner Alexander would go broke getting enough basketballs fr that dynastic duo (sic).
there was one long thread about this, i dont think it was any more or less credible than this one though, same type of article from a reporter.
Yeah i think the rockets initiated talk with LA and asked for camby for alston and ron, assuming tmac would be back, LA didn't want to give camby and said, we'll be happy to work something out involving Baron and tmac, and houston then ended talks since Les didnt want to trade tmac. If i remember correctly, the original article posted here said LA proposed a 3 way deal, don't remember with who, but after tmac ended his season the other team backed out. The clips then said, fine we'll take tmac back ourselves and give you baron, but the rockets didn't want Baron for tmac.
Wow..I dont know what to say.. Camby sucks and so does Baron.. why'd Morey go after them? All Camby does is push his teammates around to pad his rebounding stats and gambles alot on blocks whenever hes playing D. Baron...is a chucker. Heck, I think hes only shot over 50% once this season and that happened a couple of games ago. >_>;;; Plus, didnt he want to just say in LA? I think he'd just throw a tantrum if he was sent here.
Baron comes with a longer contract, if we keep McBaby we get to try to trade him next year or just let his contract expire. We don't need Baron's somewhat questionable attitude at times and he's a big time chucker.
