PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Barkley, first round prick of the Trail Blazers, signed a multiyear contract with the team Friday. Barkley, a 6-foot-1 guard, left St. John's after two seasons to enter the draft early with coach Mike Jarvis' blessing. He averaged 14.6 points and 4.7 assists a game at St. John's. His 2.6 steals a game was the best average in school history. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. ``He's a competitive guy, he wants to win and he knows that we're trying to win,'' said Bob Whitsitt, Portland team president and general manager. ``He'll be a good addition to our roster.''
