Hes on dave right now and dave asked him who he looked up to and called when he was playing. he said in philly it was moses, in phoenix it was dan marjle and in houston it was NOBODY except rudy t. however he did say he loved the fans and the city but it was the end of his career.

Ya know what... Olajuwon is the best center of all-time no doubt. But after the 2nd championship there was a significant decline in his intensity and will. No doubt he lost the passion IMO. Maybe it was all the Denny's he purchased. I dunno. Barkley, despite being out of shape brought it everynight.

Though i agree Hakeem wasn't the same, Barkley didn't bring it ever night. He resorted to shooting jack up jumpers....and i blame him more for the pippen tragedy.

Barkley was a complete beast on the boards the entire year, averaging 14 rebs and 5 asts.....shooting 48%.....

i'm glad he showed Rudy T some love.

did you watch that "NBA Stories:Hakeem" this week?
they interviewed Dream. Dream said he hoped that he could help win one for Charles, but it didn't happen.

Are you freaking kidding me. Barkley brought it so hard he beat the crap out of Shaq one time. What the hell did Pippen ever do. He chucked threes and when he couldn't make them without MJ taking the D's attention he started blaming everyone he could, none more than Barkley. Pippen was/is a punk who couldn't face his decline immediately following MJ's second retirement. Pippen=the most overrated player in NBA history.

This is a non-story, unless you're talking about his respect for Rudy T and love of the city of Houston.

By the time Barkley got here, he was a very veteran player in this league. He didn't have to "look up to" anybody.

The only 'tragedy' is that we bothered with Pippen in the first place.

that was a massive tragedy cause we signed Pippen to the Max and what do we get back when we trade him?

Houston Rockets trade Scottie Pippen to Portland Trail Blazers for six role players, Kelvin Cato, Walt Williams, Stacey Augmon, Ed Gray, Brian Shaw and Carlos Rogers

    yeah. thanks pippen.

never mind the Horry/Cassell for Barkley. That at least got us to the WCF, plus lots of good memories.

The Pippen for Kato/Walt Williams was terrible. Even though I liked those guys. If Pippen was so good, couldn't we get anyone else for him than a bunch of role players?

Maybe Steve and Cuttino would have gotten passed the 1st round of the playoffs.

Hell if Pippen wasn't such a baby, we could have had a Steve/Cuttino/Pippen/Barkley/Dream

    lineup!!

Pippen was trying to force a trade to the Lakers at the time. I don't remember what they were offering (if anything), but the Blazers trade seemed more to get back at him than to get maximum return.

Definitely would have been interesting to see how that team + Steve Francis would have turned out.

HAHA Barkley wanted to win more than anyone I have ever seen. The guy nearly willed the Rockets (with Matt Freaking Maloney) past the Jazz without Hakeem before Antoine Carr seemingly purposefully fell on his shoulder and tore it.

The only problem I have with Barkley is that he talks so much trash about the Rockets now, but as a player I could not be more happy for what he brought.. I could only wish Tmac wanted to win as bad as Barkley did, now that would make the Rockets truely scary good.

Chuck said that his teammates didn't like him in Houston.I don't recall the team having problems with Chuck back then.

Anybody remember it differently from back then?

There were reports that Clyde didn't get along with him. And Scottie Pippen was pretty open in his criticism of Barkley, being the douche bag he is.

Correct. Sir Charles said something to the effect that Clyde was continuing to play solely for the money. I think saying they didn't get along is understating the matter a lot.

That's true, Clyde Drexler told the story of Barkley arriving to the game late with a hang over and telling evryone "guy's i've got nothing, i've been out all night with two blondes so don't expect much from me". Then, towards the end of the game he's asking for ball trying to score.
