the chuckster was on the dan patrick radio show this morning and the topic was of course jvg and stern. patrick who has been constantly saying yao doesnt play 7'5 because he tries to take charges (of course dan doesnt know that when he tries to block shots he gets called for the foul too and was told by refs to stand his ground and not jump) and then barkley actual defended yao saying that he should try to block shots but that he seen every one of those charges and they were charges by the offensive player. he said that because he is 7'5 he isnt going to get those calls, but pretty much every time he tried to draw the charge it was a charge. patrick sensing he wasnt going to win this argument goes and changes the subject quickly after that. oh well surprising to see barkley defend yao like that
Im wondering if everyone in the media is seeing us getting robbed by the refs and feels sorry for us? J
Is it just me, or does Barkley seem a lot more toned down than he use to be? He use to annoy me how he'd interrupt everyone and make some shock statements that were basically the popular sediment at the time, but now his thoughts are more informative. Sometimes I catch myself saying, "that's a pretty good point charles just made"..don't know, maybe it's just me.
I remember an HBO Real Sports a while back that chronicled Barkley, specifically how he adjusted to retirement and "inside the nba." One issue the TNT producers had was that Barkley would should up infrequently sauced, leading to such impromptu interruptions on-air. Barkley considered some of those his "best nights."
DO any of you recall when Barkley said that Yao would never score 20 points in a SINGLE GAME his rookie year.....that was hillarious.....he had to kiss a donkey's ASS or something, lol
Actually, I heard that everybody behind the scense on the show considered it some of his "best nights" ... not Barkley. They were torn between firing him for being drunk but couldn't because he was so good on the air...when drunk.
I think the shows producers tell Barkeley to be obnoxious and loud and rude. It garners better ratings that way.
That's what I was hinting at, I think he's toned down quite a lot over his time on TNT. Who knows, maybe I just happen to catch him on the sauce-less nights.
Barkley in his worst could never be as bad as SAS whose shtick is to outyell everyone. Barkley knows he's an idiot, SAS doesn't.
as long as charles is still funny and speaks his mind, i don't care if he's sauced. i don't condone being drunk on national tv but charles is easily the most intertaining sports commentator on tv.
I'd love to see SAS and Charles interact with each other.... it could be epic. SAS - (yelling) "This may very well be... the most deplorable, dispicable... most outlandish act that I have ever laid witness to in all my years watching this fine product known as the National Basketball Association... and I implore everybody out there to view this injustice with the same ferocity that I have tonight!" Charles - "Dude... chill out. Did anybody ever tell you that you look like a little chihuahua.... on speed? Have you even played basketball before?"
i dont know about you guys but i have SAS more when he doesnt scream. when he talks normally he comes off to me as an even bigger jacka$$ who thinks he knows it all. the guy is so arrogant i cannot believe he is still working. i dont know a single guy who doesnt like him. i know in the past people stay on tv because of the "i hate them so much that i have to see them make a fool out of themselves" complex of their audience. i dont think that holds true with SAS i dont even bother watching any espn pre/post/half time stuff anymore since he started being a regular on there
I think barkley actually talks about basketball during the playoffs. During the regular season, he kinda just throws in controversial comments and witty jokes. He's kinda like the Horry of NBA broadcasting
smith knows basketball pretty well but he just says some really dumb stuff and yells constantly. but what really makes me hate him is that he thinks what he says is God's word, the almighty knowing. i rather listen to charles drunk off his ass than SAS.
