Alright here's the story -- as most of you know, I work at a school, and as part of the faculty/staff dress code, I need to have hair that is nicely trimmed, etc. Well, I haven't gotten a haircut since December. My hair has grown out in just about every direction, and it's just about to shoulder-length (my hair doesn't grow very quickly). Well, I HAVE to get a haircut sometime before Monday. I figured I'd do it tomorrow, as I will get off work early since I'm pulling an all-nighter. Anyhow, I have two choices here . . . I can cut it short again like it used to be. Then I'll just not get a hair cut for another year (it'll probably still be within the dress code standards by the end of school), or I can get it cut, but still have some length. It'll basically have to be shortened, and "shaped" if I do that. I think I want to go with the second option. I've really enjoyed having the longer hair, and I think it gives me a certain avant-garde look, especially compared to everyone else. But I want it cut well. Where should I go? I can afford to spend a bit on it, since I haven't gotten my hair cut in so long. No more Rio's Golden Cuts for me (major SA props if you get that). Someone here has to have done this before . . .
Closest thing to what your sayin is when I got the final foot and a half of my hair cut off a year back or so... I just went to my stylist(when your hair is 3' long, you have to use one) and told her she was gonna get to do what she had been wanting to do for the last 10 yrs.. I dont recommand those mall-type hair cutting places...If you are in Houston ( ashamed to admit I dont remember where u r at) try Aristicut in P-dena...
The best long hair people in Houston are Charlie's Hair Productions on West Gray. I've had Charlie or his brother, Eddie (both straight as shocking as that may seem at a hair salon) cut my hair for five years now. They are experts at cutting men's long hair without ruining it (women's too - Mrs JB has hers done by Eddie too). They are really, really great. Go to Eddie and tell him I told you to go there. He is awesome.
Yeah, you do need an appointment. Ask for Eddie. He has long hair himself and is really hesitant to chop off very much. He knows how it hurts to see all that hair hit the floor! Their number is 713-520-0862.
Thanks again Jeff. Tomorrow at 1:30 with Eddie . . . I've never set up an appointment for a hair cut before. I feel so aristocratic.
You won't feel aristocratic around Eddie. He's a former welder and a real guy's guy. He likes to party, he loves the ladies and he'll tell you ALL about it if you let him. He tones it down around me, but he doesn't hold back w/Jeff! I like Eddie because he's very careful to only cut as much as you tell him. If I want more than a few inches cut off, I really have to push him to do it. Plus he gives a great scalp massage -- he reserves that bonus for his female clients only.
Allright, now. Settle down. Eddie is a really cool guy. I've had long hair since I was in high school and, up until just really 6 or 7 years ago, I had nowhere to get it cut where they didn't want to saw it all off. I know women experience the same thing. It's like an obsession with people who cut hair to chop it all off. Watch a makeover show on Oprah or some other talk show. Every woman with long hair to start ends up with really short hair when they are done. Anyway, a musician friend of mine told me about Charlie because quite a few long-haired hippie musician types went to him. At the time, I hadn't gotten my hair cut in probably 4 years and it was nearly at my waist. Charlie did a great job but was unavailable the next time and I got Eddie, his brother. Eddie has been my guy ever since. The place is an upscale hair salon. Their customers include a lot of rich River Oaks ladies, but man they know their long hair for sure. Let me know how it goes and tell Eddie I said, "Hello."
According to your profile you're balding. Why bother with Visible Changes when you can just let nature take its course?
I'm a network/PC technician and administrator. I also teach AC computer science -- just one class of it.
TheFreak saves me from having to make my obligatory Maiden reference... Jeff, what is it about some stylists? I had that problem way back when I first got my hair past my shoulders.. I went to a mainstream hair place and the girl ended up spiking my hair out on top and tryin to convince me that cutting off some of the length would make my hair look fuller (I have real fine hair)... It looked nasty... I found the girl that does mine now and stuck with her cause she liked long hair on guys and would only cut enuff off to get rid of the dead ends.. How long did you let it get before you got tired of jacking with it? I kept mine at waist length for a couple of years before I got tired of messing with it..even then I only cut it back to middle of my back.. Vengeance, lookin for any admins with a unix background?
I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow as it has gotten nappy. I always know it is time for a haircut when the hair on the sides starts to curl up and I begin to look like a freaking great horned owl. Wouldn't know what it is like to have long hair since I, too, am balding.
I figgered I would end up looking like Gallager since the balding gene runs in the family...but my hair quit thinning a couple of years ago..dont know why, it just reached a point of thinness and apparently hasnt got any worse.
