    Obama is right.

    https://www.cnn.com/2022/10/17/politics/obama-pod-save-america-democrats-buzzkill/index.html

“How does politics even – how is it even relevant to the things that I care most deeply about? My family, my kids, work that gives me satisfaction, having fun, not being a buzzkill, right?” Obama said in an interview with “Pod Save America.” “And sometimes Democrats are, right? You know, sometimes, people just want to not feel as if they are walking on eggshells. And they want some acknowledgment that life is messy and that all of us at any given moment can say things the wrong way, make mistakes.”

“We’re letting a noisy wing of our party define the rest of us,” Carville said last summer. “And my point is we can’t do that. I think these people are all kind of nice people. I think they’re very naive, and they’re all into language and identity. And that’s all right. They’re not storming the Capitol. But they’re not winning elections.”

“Don’t just look at Virginia and New Jersey,” Carville told PBS’ Judy Woodruff at the time. “Look at Long Island, look at Buffalo, look at Minneapolis, even look at Seattle, Washington. I mean, this ‘defund the police’ lunacy, this take Abraham Lincoln’s name off of schools. I mean that – people see that.”

He added: “Some of these people need to go to a ‘woke’ detox center or something. They’re expressing a language that people just don’t use, and there’s backlash and a frustration at that.”

To be clear: Obama isn’t saying that Democrats are entirely wrong in their approach. Instead, he’s suggesting that they operate from a place of understanding for those who are still evolving in their thinking – and not assume the worst motives of them.

Obama cites his own mother-in-law as a case in point. “She’s 86, you know, and sometimes trying to get the right phraseology when we’re talking about issues, Michelle’s like, that’s like her trying to learn Spanish. It doesn’t mean she shouldn’t try to learn Spanish, but it means that sometimes she’s not gonna get the words right. And that’s OK, right?”

“We’re letting a noisy wing of our party define the rest of us,” …it’s good that was acknowledged. Next step is rebutting that noise

Likewise, your next step is rebutting your noisy wing of seditionist and religious extremists.

Compared to "religious freedom" being used as an excuse to create a new Jim Crow that legislates discrimination.

Sounds like another Christian falling for extremism and anti-freedom. DeSantis showed the way to punish private companies for having a view different than the State's.

Not surprising at all that the conservative posters fell for a paid ad.

But worse, they don't care. They don't care if the election was stolen or not because the opposition is guilty of something....

Considering pronouns is a much larger threat to this country than election denial.

Can't all four of those be important issues to reasonable people?

Sure, why not? And we will see which issues are more important to reasonable people in a few weeks. Anything can happen, as we have seen in the past.

Another question: is one being a reasonable person if one doesn't see all four of these as real issues? For example, is one being reasonable if one shrugs J6 off like it's essentially nothing?

That's a media/perception problem. Not a reality problem. The noisy liberals are all powerless losers grousing on Twitter. The noisy conservatives are sitting in Congress and beamed into millions of homes via cable TV every night.

    That's the difference.

As for Obama, it sure sounds like he thinks Democrats have a preachiness problem (ahem).

I know that the left has a reputation for treating mental illnesses like Pokémon gym badges but good lord the psycho energy that radiates from conservative female lawyers is intense

I think most reasonable people consider it an issue but I am not sure it is high up on a reasonable person's list for this midterm. I think it more unreasonable for that incident to dictate someone's vote in november 2022.

I think voters should be considered that because of the previous president and the events that led up to jan 6th the United Atates is going down a a downward spiral of citizens not trusting the democratic process. That usually destablizes nations. Seems important to me. Having a third of GOP polticians every election cycle from now one be like "ya it says you got more votes but I think that's fake news" seems to be not sustainable for a society.

The Democrats have had a messaging problem and they still do going into this election. Too frequently they end up allowing their messaging being used against them with “Defund the Police” being the biggest one.

A big part of this is that the Democrats are less driven by ideological discipline than Republicans as the Democrats are far more ideologically diverse. As such the messaging from one wing frequently clashes with the messaging of another wing.

Im down for defunding the police. If the solution from Biden is to hire 100 thousand more cops and to solve the culture issue they will do power point classroom slides about community policing, I'm done. These people have no clue what people of that culture do with what they deem as "woke" classes(they turn them into memes and inside jokes). No one is serious about law enforcement reform. The people who scream about how "defund the police" ruins their election chances don't care about sincere reform. They just care about political messaging to win elections.
