With our funeral-quiet fans, my throat gets pretty tired by the end of games - does anyone know if we would be allowed to bring in anything like a small drum or tom-tom to bang on? If I knew we were allowed, I'd definitely go out and buy one to bring with me to the next game. Would anyone else like to get on this bandwagon?
I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I think we have way to much drum action going on at the games with those high school kids who are still amazed they landed that gig. Bring in a trumpet or something different.
I used to play cymbals. I could crash them during opponents free throws. I'd probably get kicked out the first time I did it though. B
There was a musicician who used to play at the Astrodome, who might want to hop on your bandwagon. Crazy George.......
I wouldn't do that, you may disturb the rich people that are trying to conduct their business meetings or read the WSJ. The Compaq Center is a good atmosphere for that type of thing.
It is unfortunate how quiet the fans at compaq are. I remember going to the playoff game against the Jazz where Eddie Johnson hit the miraculous three for a game winner. The play before he made the shot, Utah had just gotten a big score and most of our fans sat stunned and silent. I jumped to my feet and screamed for everyone to stand up and cheer, because this was the time the Rox needed us. Of course I was drunk at the time, but I was shocked at how complacent everyone seemed; up until Eddie dropped in that beautiful bucket of course. As you know, we did go on to lose the series, but my god what a game! What do we need to do to get our prima-donna (sp?) crowd to be more active? My suggestion would be drink specials! More alcohol equals more cheering!
I am headed to my first game of the year tonight. I would be glad to jump on the wagon. I can't stand the atmosphere at the compaq! It seems you have to worry whether or not you are going to bother someone. It is so damn quiet. What can we do to correct this? If we could somehow coordinate some action... someway to get that place hyped up...
<<If we could somehow coordinate some action... someway to get that place hyped up...>> I've got 2 words for the corporate center...er, the Compaq Center crowd... MORE BEER Always works for me.
In a previous thread (i can't find it right now), Tim VP of Marketing for the Rockets checked with the Compaq Center and informed us that you can bring in a Drum as long as it's open ended or has a clear head so they can check inside the drum for security reasons. - on a related note - In that previous thread I mentioned I was going to become the next crazy george. I'm in the process of writing up a proposal to send to Tim and Wegs with the Rockets to see what I can do to help get the fans into the games. If any of you have suggestions on how we can get the fans into the games, send my an email my address is in my profile and I'll include it in my proposal.
Even the people in the cheap seats are too quiet. They just sit there, no cheering, no nothing. That's what was so cool about last game -- there were a BUNCH of kids in my section, and they were so loud and into the game. When I was at the Spurs game, the people in front of me moved one section over because I was too loud for them . . .
Thats me also my wife do's NOT like going to any game with me because I scream all the time and drink plenty of beer.
Corporate folks have a monopoly on the good seats because it's so expensive and the company picks up the tab. The bad part is our executives are just a lot more quite than other city's.
It seems to me that the only thing some fans get up for is the 1 in 2,000 chance of getting a free T-shirt . . .
What I hate about the Compaq center, is that not only is it really quiet, but when I try to get people up and load, by making my ass a fool by jumping around (in the cheap seats) and screaming. (yelling) I get the stare if death from the people sitting around me. like the couple always sitting in front of me, hell, they always look at me with the death stare, trying to silence me forever. I brought by grandfather into the game, he started out quiet, but after a little while of hanging with me, the old guy was yelling too. I mean, my 80+ year old grand father was yelling louder than people half to 1/3 of his age. well, I say bring everything you can that makes noise, we need that place to be loud in its last year of existence. Too many busy dopes, hope the new arena doesnt turn into an office building.
Just to confirm, VooDooPope is right. Not only is it allowed, we encourage it. Bring the drums. Bring the noisemakers. Getting loud and crazy with 15,000 other people you don't know is part of what is magical about sports. Tim
