LYNYRD SKYNYRD: Named after Leonard Skinerd, who was an annoying gym coach some band members had in high school BONO: The singer with U2, Paul Hewson was inspired by a hearing aid store in Dublin, Ireland called 'Bono Vox'.

The band members were already so deaf they kept saying, "The who?". Finally, someone suggested the Who as their name. U2 A type of spy plane used by the United States. Bono explained once that U2 grew out of thoughts of interactivity with the audience.... as in 'you too.' GREEN DAY If you smoked pot and goofed off all day, you just had a 'Green Day'. Very Good Oski..... Who can tell me the name of the famous rock-n-roll musician who named Led Zeppelin, and how the name came about?
puddle of mud they wanted to give an apt description of how their music sounded, but the record label wouldn't ok puddle of sh*t, so they used mud because of its similar appearance.
LED ZEPPELIN: Stories vary, but basically Keith Moon told Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones that their new project would go over like a lead balloon, hence, Led Zeppelin. The 'Led' spelling was to make sure people pronounced the name right. What about Pink Floyd? Is there one solid story or several? I thought I read somewhere about a pile of blues lps spread across a floor and the last name on one of the lps was Pink and the first name on the next was Floyd. Is that true?
Wrong. It was one of the bandmate's aunt's jams. At least, that's what they purported it to be in the early 90's. I was a huge fan.
And I thought in R.E.O. Speedwagon the REO stood for three towns on the Southside of Chicago where the band is from...something like Ridgeland Ave. Elmhurst and Oak Lawn....
I guess maybe that could be true... I've always heard that Syd Barret named the band after two blues musicians he was fond of, So-and-so Pink and Floyd So-and-so. You'll understand if I can't remember their first and last names, respectively... haven't heard about the LPs on the floor, but who knows. Not real sure when the band went from being "The Pink Floyd" to just "Pink Floyd," but I suppose it was around the time they just decided to continue on with out Barret. As for Metallica... well, a friend of Lars Ulrich was putting together a metal fanzine and he was running a few names for it by Lars. One of the names was Metallica, and Lars said, "Uhh... I think you should call it 'Gigantic Codpiece'" or some other awful name and stole Metallica for himself.
Ha ha, I think that's since been dismissed as a cover story floated by the band's P.R. folks to the teeny mags like Circus who were huffing Eddie Vedder's dong at the time. It's sperm.
