It was a reference to Ill-Skillz... One of these days I'm going to find out exactly what % of Ill's posts are related to Badiane.
If Ill-Skillz means Badiane has no game, it fits. Saw the game on NBA-TV and Badiane is no where ready to play in the NBA, the competition in the German league is awful and Badiane was barely able to hold his own. He has got an ugly shot and his basketball IQ is even uglier, he doesn't know the game yet. Don't know much about the guy but I bet he hasn't been playing any kind of ball more than 5 years.
another wasted draft pick courtesy of rockets management. hes basically the black version of mirsad turkan. im just glad he hav'nt filled any of our roster spots.
I saw Badiane play last night, he's worse than I thought. He is extremely clumsy. He's terrible on D. He is bumped off balance really easy. He's slow to get off the floor. He has poor lateral quickness. He has zero offensive game. He has bad hands. He fouls a crapload. He will go after rebounds but all it takes is a small bump and he loses the ball. He was the worst player on the floor by far.
Tiger, you are gonna have to excuse these boys. They actually thought Badiane was going to be a contributor for the Rockets. They are swallowing a bitter pill right now, since it's now pretty apparent they were wrong.
c'mon man, he was a late 2nd rounder, if i remember correctly. None of those guys usually make it to the NBA. If we ever get ONE stat at all out of him, it will be bonus.
I wouldn't be surprised if he was picked BECAUSE we knew he was a long shot...and therefore not wasting cap space or bench space. Since he has an NBA body, they took him just in case he panned out but...
Cuttino Mobley was taken in the second round (41st pick) back in 1998 by the Rockets management... Of course now he has been sent to the land of unwanted NBA players on LA's other basketball team...if the Laker's are showtime.....the Clippers are like the bloops-n-blunders.....
For every one of these examples you can offer up, there are probably 10 examples of people who didn't make it. I seriously doubt the Rockets are the worst team in the league in picking 2nd rounders. Now 1st rounders, that may be another story.
Okay. Fine. Why are you saying that in reply to my post? BrockStapper's post was clearly a reference to one of Ill's posts in one of the other Badiane threads.
In fact you are about right. He is from Senegal where he played mostly soccer until a few years ago. Senegal is not exactly a hot-bed of basketball. He has been on a German minor league team for two years, again not a hot-bed of basketball expertise. He has never had really good 'big-man' coaching like Pete Newell's big-man camp. Of course that is one reason I would like to see him stay in the States this coming year. In the first game I posted he played his 'role' pretty well, but in this game he did not play well. But then, his whole team was not playing well. Roller and Williams were playing pitch-and-catch on offense and pretty much nobody was playing interior defense. On one play Badiane stopped his man in his tracks, but the guy reached around Badiane and almost handed the ball to a teammate that was completely unguarded. Badiane has not learned to be a one-man team yet. If you are expecting him to be another Amare it just won't happen, but he is athletic, exremely long, gets up and down court well, jumps very well and is only 21. So, hope springs eternal.
Jumps very well???? He barely got off the court. He runs clumsy too, he's not fluid. He runs like Mutombo.
I watched last night as well. and I agree. He's like Mutumbo but 6'9 ish and doesn't rebound or block nearly as well.
I posted this earlier in the year. Don't have a link, take it for what you will. Malick Badiane: Height: 6'11" (according to current listings) Weight: 240 (according to current listings) Wingspan: 7'5" (Yao is 7'5", Mutombo is 7'6") Standing Reach: 9'5" (Yao's is 9'7") Vertical Leap: 38" (Amare's vertical is also 38)
