I was watching the Netflix show After Life with Katie Sackoff, was really wanting to ghet a Sci Fi fix since loving watching The latest season of The Expanse. I have become some what of a TV snob since reading a lot of breakdown and reviews of TV since about 2012, it has helped me breakdown different shows and understand different Tropes, I have a real small tolerance for contrived premises and bad writing but if the acting is good and the premise is good I will usually finish everything I start. Some non prestige shows I like are Queen of the South, Lincoln Rhymes, Krypton and Dark Matter are some, I will give most shows 1 season, But Holy ****, After Life is terrible. Show Synopsis: Alien artifact lands on earth and a crew is sent on a mission to find out where it came from. Sounds pretty boilerplate right? It all went to **** from there, The crew consist of all 20 somethings who attitudes are all pretty much "Ok Boomer" since Sackof is in her mid 30's, I am like ok this could possibly be somewhat interesting to explore this dynamic but it's never explained why this crew was picked and they don't seem to have any special skills, so they come off as whiny brats the whole episode who should never have been picked in the 1st place. I could kind of ignore that glaring plot point but what really made me eye roll so hard is the fact that Sackoffs 2nd in command was the original commander of the ship and the 1st time there is an issue he starts questioning her leadership and then mutinies. This is 30 minutes into the pilot episodes. Really? It got progressively worst from there and I could not even bring myself to watch another episode. So what show have you tried to watch that were this terrible?
Katie was in a movie called “2036:Origins Unknown” that had to be one of the crappiest films I’ve seen. My head still hurts from watching it. I can’t believe she got through the shooting of that one. I would have killed myself.
^ I'm not sure if that's the same Sackoff movie I saw on Netflix about her and some AI blowing up civilization. The meta point they made you sit through didn't even make any sense. Waste of time, brain cells and money. Her typecast sci fi choices are doodoo Avoid Nightflyers.
what's that new(ish) Ricky Gervais show on netflix? where his wife died and he's sad. man, that show sucked. watched 3 bad episodes then had to throw in the towel.
Yeah, I couldn't make it past the first episode. Sackhoff is so much better than some of her roles suggest. She should be careful not to be typecast as "badass sci-fi woman," even though she made her name known through Galactica.
Yep. I heard she was good in Longmire, so they must have through a lot of cash her way. When did you 1st realize the show was gonna be terrible? It was when her 2nd in command started spazzing out for nothing.
I watched it as soon as it came out on Netflix last year, which was like...July, I think? I don't remember anything about the show - just that it was really bad lol. Apparently, there's a second season, soon to premiere.
really bad writing, really bad acting. not sure which was worse. Right there with Lost in Space and After Life in terms of quality. I believe it was one of Netflix' most watched shows this year, not sure how
I watched 1 and a half season and it was BAD For sci fi thats currently airing? I'd say Discovery is good, so is The 100. Altered Carbon is ok. Rick and Morty and Futureman are comedy sci-fi with still high quality sci fi components
First two seasons were rough -- I only stuck with it because I read the books. The characters don't match up with what was written in the books which is a big problem.
