Has anyone here ever had a bad, random roommate before?

I've gone through 5 in college.. and while my latest isn't the worst (the worst one came in drunk at 4 AM most nights and beat his girlfriend, who was a minor), we are definately complete opposites in lots of aspects.

Crap he does that ticks me off:
Dishes - He never does them, ever. Granted a majority of everything that is used is mine (this kid is an 18 year old freshman, so he usually eats out of a can), but he doesn't even do them a fair percentage of the time. Never even puts HIS stuff up after it's done. I used to do it for him, now I just take his stuff and set it on the counter near his cabinets. He never even washes out his nasty chef boyardee encrusted bowls that I can PUT them in the washer. Plus he uses my silverware since he bought a crappy little set from Target that only has 4 of everything.
Trash - He will pile crap on top of our little 13 gallon trash bin until the cows come home, but he will never take it out to the dumpster. Ever. He won't even put in a new garbage bag once I take it out. If he has a large piece of trash he either shoves it in the trash can, taking up 35% of the entire thing, or he just leaves it on the floor.
Girlfriend - So he has a girlfriend that goes to another college. You'd think she went to THIS college by the amount of time she spends here. I have a girlfriend that lives in Houston that spends maybe a day here a week, if that. His girlfriend lives 2 hours away and spends roughly 30% of the week here, every week. She doesn't pay rent, she doesn't do the dishes, or take out the trash, or refrain from drinking my sodas. Plus whenever she's here the trash and dirty dish output skyrockets.
General Assclownery - For the past several days my roommate has been leaving his tv on very loud, locking his door, and leaving for work/school/etc for several hours at a time. This is akin to leaving your alarm clock blaring while you're not at home. Every time he does it I go to the breaker box and throw the switch to his room, killing his TV. But sure enough, whenever he leaves the next time he does it again. This only started recently.
Oh, and his alarm clock, which is set for 7:30-8 AM usually, is his radio.. set to some news channel, that whenever it goes off, it is set to some INSANELY loud level, and it wakes me up too.
I'm a fairly open guy. I'm older now and I'm very open with my life, in our living room I have my TV and entertainment system set up, and I don't mind my roomie using it, and he does. I have all my xbox stuff out there as well, games, etc.. my roommate also has an xbox and plenty of games, but he keeps them all locked up in his room, and basically refuses to share anything of his.

Living with this freshman has put a damper on my senior year. I seriously can't believe the office administrators decided to put me with this kid. He is the epitome of everything I am not. A spoiled single child from one of the richest communities in Texas. Not to mention one of the most conservative people I know (all completely based on his family).. I just don't know how much longer I can put up with this crap.

Somebody please relate some experiences that will make me feel fortunate by comparison.

    Not to be flippant but:

You're a senior and couldn't find your own roomate? Do you have the plague?

Frank - " Pee on him while he's asleep."

    Tim - " Wha..."

Frank - " Yeah, just sneak in quietly, make sure he is fast asleep, and take a piss."

    Tim - " I dont understa..."

Frank - " Listen, he'll either wake up after your gone, and think he did it. he'll feel unbelievably embarassed at himself causing him to tone down his almightyness or... like dogs in the street he'll understand that you are now the master of the domain, and he must respect that. Urine brings respect. Remember that."

    Tim - " I'll think about it..."

    A good question.

I was assigned a random roommate because this student housing complex does this automatically if you can't find your own, and it's a little more than impossible to weasel your friend in as your roommate at this place with a waiting list of nearly 300 people.

So.. if you didn't move in with your friend initially, you're screwed.

Most of the time I was a great roommate, but I must admit that I drove my last roommate away by allowing my girlfriend to become the 2nd roommate he never wanted.

But I married her and she rocks, so screw him.

My worst college roommate sold some of my CDs to pay for a coke habit that he kept secret from me for awhile and then suddenly he was completely insane. He caught venereal warts from this local Nashville gal at the beginning of the semester and then slept with all these poor Vandy gals....mostly without protection. He drank and drugged his way outta Vandy by the end of the year. Too bad, he was brilliant.

I remember getting pissed about my roommate's girlfriend spending so much time at our apartment. Their out there making a bunch of noise while I'm trying to study with only one wall between us and they didn't give a crap. This happened constantly. Yet, they were so quiet when they were sexing it up. Hmm. I had a couple of the "your gf doesn't live here talks" that were basically arguments. So, at the end of that semester, I bid adieu. The roommate and I were pretty good friends before that but living with him changed that. I totally expected my friend to be a good, upstanding roommate. You also discover certain bad habits that you come to believe they do to annoy you. For instance, he couldn't walk from his bedroom to the kitchen without whistling up a storm and making a bunch of noise regardless of where I was or what I was doing. That was one...never cleaning the hall bathroom to the point of beyond gross was another. Hair everywhere...can't even see the counter. Dirty toilet. Gross shower. And, he went in there with some kind of sick pride. So did his live-in girlfriend. They could have been spewing it on that floor and not cleaning it for all I know. I never went in there. I basically got tired of paying rent to live with a discourteous roommate and his free-loading gf. The whole time they were pretending this was their apartment and I wasn't even there...like they were living happily ever after. Yea...bad roommates suck...especially if their friends.

Same here, 4 of us live in one apartment. 3 of them are pretty good, but one guy is getting on my last nerve. He left his dirty dishes in the drain for month, till they stink like hell. He also leave his cloth in the washer and dryer forever and gets pissed off when we moved them.

Good thing is we all signed an apartmentmate contract when we moved in, so we have every rights to report him, we are just waiting for him to do something wrong again so we can report his @ss to the PA.

I had a roomate my freshman year at Sam who slept with his police scanner on "just in case something happens" he didn't want to miss anything.

My dorm was a block away from the prison and he was obsessed with that place. I remember one time there was a fire in the laundry room (of the prison) and he was FREAKING OUT. He turned out all the lights and peaked out the window for about 2 hours straight.

He had a boy scout banner that he hung in the window for EVERYONE to see (including the babes) so I had to hang my Stewart Copeland poster up right next to it so people would know that there was at least ONE normal person living in the room.

Every time I brought a girl into the room, he would say "weeell, who is this fiiiiiiiiiiiine young thing?"

He had a CB radio that he used to talk to his friends on. He wouldn't just talk on it, he would use all the CB lingo (ie. breaker, breaker, over and out and all that nonsense).

the guy that lives with me is the worst. the room is covered with clothes. he never takes out the garbage, there is literally a big pile of trash next too the mini-fridge. he is always using my computer without asking. he never does his homework but has girls over all the time. stays up late and leaves all the lights on all the time. rarely locks the door. can't stop using my x-box...hell, won't even turn the volume down when I should be studying.

    the problem is...i don't have a roommate. :D

I've heard this works pretty well..

whenever he does something that annoys you, go up to him COMPLETELY naked (but wearing socks, white socks is the cherry on top) and ask him very politely if he would mind turning off his tv/ doing the dishes etc.

    takes balls, but it works.

Let's see my roommate got us on probation for pot. Than he bailed out after the first semester to go to UNT to be with girl. Thats cool but I asked him about a billion times before we signed a lease if he was 100% committed to staying at TTU. He always said "No doubt man"

So I'm stuck paying an extra 800 dollars for a single room and I'm on probation for something I had nothing to do with.

I dont think anybody has me beat...

But I gotta look past all that dude is my best friend. He was just a terrible roommate...

Single room status for me for the rest of my college career

mateo.. a lot of brilliant people seem to screw up their lives..

As for roommates, I have yet to have one just because dont really want to deal with them. Then again they might be fun, but there are plenty of other people on this hall as it is.

My roommate is like my 4th or 5th best friend in the world, but living with him has been a mistake. Thankfully, we both have very even tempermants, but there have been times where I've wanted to kill him. Plus, he's a drunk and everyone knows I hate drunks.

My room mates piss on the toilet seat. That sucks.

Also, they let the dishes pile up, but that's okay since I have my own plate, fork, knife, spoon & glass tucked away that I just re-use constantly.

They play hockey on xbox and get really excited, yelling and shouting at all hours of the night. Thin walls, too. Sometimes I have to put in earplugs to sleep.

We all get along fine, though.

    That's awesome. :D
