    What a bad idea.
Hotel California. The cleaning people at the hotels
1.) are working in a dangerous environment
2.) obviously won't get any tips from the homeless people

Nevertheless, concerned inside sources report destroyed rooms and rampant illegal drug use. In one hotel, guests are given needle kits and are advised to call the front desk before shooting up; there have been four deaths in the last few days. Sharp containers have been placed on every floor; used syringes are discarded haphazardly. Badly needed mental-health help is not being administered. The entire operation is disorganized, with staff members constantly moved around, never knowing what they’ll do from one day to the next. One source asked to make it clear that as public servants they love the city and all its inhabitants, but the plan has left them deeply demoralized.

The hotels were pressured into accepting the homeless guests, though they were also eager for the chance to recoup some revenue lost to the Covid-19 lockdowns. Rooms are rented at close to $200 per night, totaling $6,000 a month—nearly double the cost of a private one-bedroom apartment in San Francisco. The city-sponsored guests also receive personal grooming, sanitary, and cleaning supplies, three delivered meals, and laundry service for clothes and linens. Contracts last between 90 days and two years; by that point, the guests may be able to claim de facto permanent residence.

the city has never cared about their homeless population, always just throwing money at it and not solving the main issues.

now that covid showed up, this 1st grade idea of just sticking them in hotels and paying for it was a really bad idea
there are no winners in this idea, once that money is dried up, the homeless are still going to be homeless

and their hotel stay bill will be gigantic for the tax payers

Would be cheaper to build a tent city with spaced out tents. Lord knows the federal government owns enough of California to lend you some room.

Given this is a right-wing propaganda site being used as a source - you don't know how much of what they are reporting is fact vs fiction.

I seriously doubt the city is paying $6k/room to house homeless people in luxury hotels.

You know $200 a night is a going rate for a hotel room in San Francisco right ?

I don’t care about political affiliations
But here is the San Francisco chronicle if it makes you happier

huh. Well, I guess pelosi and I do share having nothing whatsoever to do with SF city governance or this hotel policy, other than both of us paying a shitload of local taxes.

NY has been giving available hotel space to homeless people for years. I don't hear that it's going that poorly from people living in NY.

    Los Angeles has a republican mayor? Lol . He’s a Democrat .
Dude you clearly are a full of crap

Eric Michael Garcetti (born February 4, 1971) is an American politician serving as the 42nd and current mayor of Los Angeles since 2013. A member of the Democratic Party, he was first elected in the 2013 election and won reelection in 2017. A former member of the Los Angeles City Council, Garcetti served as council president from 2006 to 2012. He is the city's first elected Jewish mayor, its second consecutive Mexican American mayor, and the youngest mayor in the city's history.[1]

for a 3 star hotel but that's not where these hotels are. Also that article is old. Furthermore, FEMA is picking up most of the cost and the actual problem is that no one wants to go to these hotel rooms and they sit empty: https://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2...less-sit-empty-months-into-covid-19-pandemic/

It seems that city-journal is just making stuff up. This isn't about political affiliations, it's about fake news vs reality.
