Unless we get Dwight, I hope we really target getting a more defensive-minded backup center. I like Greg's touch around the basket, but I believe - as I've read many of you do as well - that he's too big of a drop-off defensively. I saw somewhere (maybe here) that we grab 52% of the rebounds when Asik is in (which ranks 2nd among teams overall) and only 48% when he's out (which is near the bottom). I like Greg Smith, but the kid just doesn't have the size needed to really anchor a team defense. We need to quit skimping here. Greg Smith's probably as good as it gets if you want to pay pennies. We're going to have to shell out $5-6 million if not more to get a legit center who can consistently block shots and get defensive rebounds. How much is Dalembert going to go for? He's the guy that comes to my mind. Camby is too old. I can't think of any others. What say you? Are you willing to pay out that much of our cap room to shore up our 2nd unit's defense?
No. Think championship my friend. Wait until we get another star player before filling in the bench spots.
Agreed. I think Morey has shown that he is good at acquiring role-players. Once we get that second star, we build around him and Harden. The style of play of that second star also potentially affects the kind of role-players you want, so it makes sense to get the role-players afterward.
Forget backup center. The Rockets need to sign Ioannis Bourousis, who will be a free agent this summer, and should command around $4 million a year for 3 years.......... they need to sign him to be the starting center, then Asik can be the backup. That is, if Morey actually has even half the IQ people claim he does.
Had to Google him: "During an international friendly game between the national teams of Greece and Serbia, during the 2010 Acropolis Tournament, the Serbian player, Nenad Krstić, hit Bourousis on the head with a chair." --Wikipedia Sounds like Krstic outplayed him chair to head.
