We succesfully found our guy to play the 3 behind Shane Battier, but we are still lacking a center?

If (big if) Yao gets injured how do we find a back up center?

Likely free agency, I think we should go after Diop since he is a free agent or maybe trade some people off our roster because we have like 4 PFs.

From what I have heard, Mutumbo is pretty likely to sign for one more year. Also Morey is really talking about how Dorsey has the ability to play both the 4 and the 5. Scola and Hayes can also play the 5 at times. Even without Mutumbo, we would be able to rotate three players at the 5, if, god forbid, Yao get hurt again. I think Diop is going to command a pretty good chunk of change. I think it would be a bad idea to waste our entire MLE on a contingency plan incase Yao gets hurt.

We still need a solid C since Deke is old and other guys are short.

im not saying he can't - but at 6'7 Dorsey would just about be the shortest player to see minutes at Center in history.

The NBA is probably going to listen Dorsey as 6'9; he's about the same height as Ben Wallace. So I would believe that a very strong and bulky Dorsey can man the center at times like Ben Wallace. Charles Barkley probably manned the center before, and if not Wes Unseld is still a bit shorter than Dorsey.

You cant compare Barkley and Wes Unseld to Dorsey, both those guys played in the 20th century, Dorsey is like a more athletic chuck hayes.

I was just referring to the statement that Joey Dorsey would be the shortest person to ever man the center position.

The Rockets have too many 4/5:

    Deke
    Yao
    Loren Woods (?)
    Scola
    Landry
    Hayes (disposable with Joey Dorsey)
Joey Dorsey (I like this guy already for his athleticsm, strong finish around the rim, strong body, good shot blocking and good defense)
    Harris (goner)

    Total: 8 players at 4/5

Most teams keep 5/6 players at 4/5.

Deke said that he wanted to come back next year.

    Harris will be a goner.

But will the Rockets keep Woods/Hayes?

I think the Rockets may keep Loren Woods if he's good in summer league because he has something to offer with his size and skills at minimum salary as insurance and also as a potential replacement of Deke in the future.

I think Hayes will get traded. Basically, if Dorsey works out, there will be no play time for Hayes. Even in last season, Adelman went through a stretch of games without playing Hayes. Hayes is too much an offensive burden.

At the end of the press conference vid, Morey say they are very active in free agency and trades this offseason and is just waiting for free agency season to actually start. He also says they are looking to sign vets to help us right away. Take it for what it's worth.

That's for sure. Greene is not going to help in a couple of seasons.

But like Morey said, Dorsey may give the Rockets immediate help.

So, the Rockets are still looking for a big scoring veteran 2/3.

I agree 100% Hayes and Harris are gone! Woods would be ok but Diop would be better!

Dorsey is going to measure 2 inches taller than Chuck Hayes, he is much stronger and athletic and a much better rebounder and defender.

What they have in common is their outside shot.

Dorsey depending on match up can play the 5 due to his strength and length.

He has a good wingspan and good timing on shot blocks.

He can hold position and move people in the paint.

The negative on Dorsey at center is that he will get shots over him and he probably will have foul troubles.

But I think it would be good to have Deke back and see if Chuck Hayes can be moved.

if chuck hayes can play backup center for most of the year, i don't see why dorsey can't. same size and strength. same defensive ability. advantage goes to dorsey because he can make a friggin layup.

there is a logjam in the front court though:

    yao-dorsey-deke-woods
    scola-landry-hayes
    shane-greene-novak-harris

i really like harris, but woods and harris' non-guaranteed contracts make them the easy cuts.

Dorsey and Hayes will be fighting for the backup minutes at the C. Dorsey to me is a C more than a PF.

why do people think a center has to be 7'? the game has changed nowadays.

when yao sits, we can go small with landry and scola. it's not like the centers nowadays are like the 90s.
