The Rockets are getting healthy and seem to be figuring things out. I know this topic has been brought up a number of times and I searched for threads containing the words "backup center" but the only ones I noticed had the name Mutombo in the title. I am not totally against bringing Deke back but I think the ideal scenario would be to acquire a long, athletic, defensive-minded big that can also slide to the 4 and play next to Yao when we face players like Zach Randolph and Al Jefferson that none of our current set of bigs can contain (not even Chuck). A guy like Camby would be a perfect fit, in my opinion, and he has a very reasonable contract for what, in my mind, is a perfect skill set for our needs. If the Clippers were open to trading him, who would you be willing to give them in exchange? Alternatively, do you still think Mutombo is the answer? If so, why? I wouldn't mind Deke as a last resort but, again, I would love to acquire a more mobile PF/C that could play along side Yao against certain matchups as well as back him up. Is there another big you think we could get to address our frontcourt needs? Or do you see this as a non-issue, i.e., we are fine with our current undersized frontcourt? Morey tells the media we don't need one. Is he bluffing?
Can somebody else currently on our team? We got owned by Randolph and Jefferson recently. If you don't like Camby, do you have another idea? Do you think we are fine as is?
I would love Camby on our team but we would need to trade one of our key role players to fit his 8 or 9 million (Landry + fillers). I would love Cambys weak side defense
I'm watching the struggling Raptors do a relatively good job at keeping Randolph in check - something our frontcourt was unable to do. Bosh and O'Neal have good length and athleticism. It makes things a lot harder for Randolph. He hasn't been able to blow by them off the dribble like he did against us. He also isn't getting the space to shoot like he did against us because both Bosh and O'Neal are agile enough to stay in his face as well as recover if he puts it on the floor.
The Rockets already have a good PF situation with Scola, Landry and Chuck and don't need a backup C that can move over to PF. If they get one, may as well trade Landry.
I agree that Camby would be a great piece to add to the roster, but I don't really see a way the Rockets can get him. Unless trading Battier is an option (which I would would not want to see), I can't think of anything that can work, even with Morey's magical wand. MC's contract is $8 mil this year, while around $7.5 mil next season, which is definitely a manageable deal, but I just can't see any trade scenarios not involving Battier, Landry, or another key piece.
Of course we want Camby if he's available. The question is do the Clippers want to do this and who do they want that we are willing to part with. My gut instinct is none of our core rotation players will be dealt, this includes Shane who seems to be a popular choice to be dealt away. Head, SF3 can be dealt anytime but who wants them?
I totally agree with Brooksball.IMO this is the biggest need for the Rockets against 4's and 5's. If we can get someone who could come out and defend against shooting 5's like Okur or a 4 like Dirk in addition to low post scorers in the paint we would be in very good shape. Unfortunately,I don't see anyway we could get to have that problem solved. Deke appears to be our last choice.
That's one way to put pressure on someone. I would also like to see better rebounding and defense in the paint.
We still need a good back up center to limit Yao's minutes, and defend with blocks. Also, we need to get some rebounds when Yao goes out. So yeah, I would say we still need a back up C.
Marcus Camby would probably ruin Luis Scola's development as a basketball player if he starts. But it would be quite sick if he came off the bench. Problem is who will be traded for him? I prefer Mutombo because all the Rockets have to do is sign him. The Perfect PF for the Houston Rockets would be Amare Stoudemire. I could careless that he can't play a lick of defense, but the simple fact that this team would be flat out unstoppable on offense.
By getting Rasheed, it would space the floor for all our players especially for Yao to dominate the paint and Tmac and his isos.
A guy like Bargnani would fit the bill but he is weak on the boards and I don't think the Raptors are willing to part ways with him yet. I think it would be great to have a big that could really spread the floor like that but I also think having one that can defend a player like that would be equally useful. Either one would be a plus.
Rasheed would be sick, too bad he doesn't try every game. One of the biggest waste of talents in the NBA
I didn't even think of him. That sounds intriguing, too. He can also play both ends of the court and it seems like he's struggling in D-town. He's making $13.7 million though. I don't think we can make that work.
"And I would like a blowjob from Christy Turlington." I didn't know this was a random rockets trade idea thread. Hell, let's imagine we can get Al Horford and LaMarcus Aldridge while we're at it.
