I take it back: New Microbes and New Infections is an Elsevier pub. So not a predatory journal.

I must be living in Bizzaro World. Someone who has spent his career in economics and trade policy is trying to tell the Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health they are wrong about the side effects of a drug. Of course, what should I expect from an administration that banned the FDA from regulating lab-developed tests this week.

The Trump administration can’t be removed from office fast enough.

Rumor is that Trump will make HCQ available without prescription today. We'll see if I got bamboozled by the internet....again.

If so, people are then free to make their own decisions. Kinda like abortion, right?

It’s about convelescent plasma. It has been in use since the pandemic started. It should work, but it is not scalable and the trials are limited.

If people want to take it they should be free to do it. I mean allowance or promotion by negligence of suicide is wrong so there’s a limit, but sure.

However the issue was not an argument of free will to spend your money on and believing in miracle cure snake oil. The issue is science denial and denial of real problems that need to be dealt with that affect everyone’s health and safety. Not dealing with the problem and instead peddling falsehoods just makes things like a pandemic worse.

You can destroy your liver all you want by drinking yourself into a comma every night in your own home, but when you get blackout drunk and then go on a joy ride through my Neigborhood with my kids outside playing, your problem now becomes my problem.

So take whatever the hell you want. Doesn’t mean I also want the federal government to refuse to do a damn thing to protect our country against a pandemic that is closing in on killing 200k Americans and has wreaked havoc on my personal financial well being. Had Trump put the weight of the government into universal testing instead of peddling snake oil, I believe we could have a system of daily testing that allows schools to reopen with daily rapid testing. Same for in office workers etc. All things that allow for the economy to come back where we all need it to be.

Not sure I can be any more clear than that. The abortion argument is far from relatable.

It should be an option available and discussed with your physician. It should not be politicized and censored.
