I have a quick question -- my brother hurt his back during the football season, and he's been unable to make it right since. Took him to the doctor, but the doctor wasn't helpful -- I'm wondering if a massage would do the trick. So, does anyone here know anywhere in Houston that gives good massages? How much can I expect to pay? I think I'll make it another Christmas present for him. Thanks
I need more information to give you a good answer. 1. What area of town do you live in? 2. Will your insurance cover the costs of therapeutic massage? 3. Does your brother want a massage from a Chinese Doctor, a Physical Therapist, or a naked exotic dancer. This decision is the biggest variable your brother needs to make in regards to the final price.
I will forever sing the praises of my chiropractor. I've had several injuries which had me laid up for days. Since seeing my chiro, the pain has never returned to that extreme. I still have a bad back, but I haven't been laid up like I was since I saw my chiropractor. I'm currently doing a lot of weight training, including several exercises to strengthen my back. tell him to go to a chiropractor. I can recommend an excellent chiropractor, if you wish. Drop me a line at Lynus302@yahoo.com, if you're interested.
Man, do I know a lot about this subject. I had a very severe back problem that was made worse by a chiropractor and diagnosed as a degenerative back problem by doctors who suggested I should buy a wheelchair - at the age of 22. Needless to say, I didn't take their advice. I have had nearly every form of bodywork known to man done on me and liked much of it. If he wants traditional Swedish massage, it will help relax him, but it might not be enough of a therapeutic treatment. The Therapy and Wellness Center on South Shepherd (right next door to Keneally's) has a woman named Lou Holley. She doesn't do traditional massage but rather a combination of accupressure, trigger point therapy and reflexology. She fixed my back when everyone else gave up. She is amazing. I recommend her highly. If you are looking for accupuncture, I highly recommend Dr. Wu who is right down the street from The Therapy and Wellness Center just north of Westheimer on Shepherd (about a block from the massage place). He is a terrific accupuncturist. Either would be great. You can expect to pay $45 to $65 per hour session at just about any good therapist. Email me if you want more info.
I expected to hear from you about this, as I remember when you posted more or less the same thing a long time ago. To each his own, but I can't help but feel that you simply didn't get the right chiropractor.....there are quacks in every profession, after all. I've been to chiropractors, medical doctors, and massage therapists over the years, and none has done as much good for me as a chiropractor. Since finding the right chiro, my need for massages has gone down exponentially. Vengeance, of course I advise to follow up on every option, but in my experience, a chiro has been the best bet for me, hands down.
