At almost 23 weeks gestation, she entered the EPOC Clinic in Orlando, Florida. Little did she realize that the next day she would give birth to a live, perfectly healthy boy whom she named Rowan. Cradling Rowan’s moving body, her screams for help were ignored by abortion clinic workers while her son took his last breath. The clinic is known for late-term abortions and its well-known founder, Dr. James Pendergraft. A few years ago he served time in a federal prison regarding an alleged scheme to extort the city of Ocala, Florida by means of his other abortion clinic in that city. On April 1, Angele was given Valium and laminaria were inserted in her cervix to begin dilation. She was told to return the following day. On April 2, Angele took prescribed medicine to induce labor. Cramping and crying, she went to the clinic and knocked repeatedly on the door. Eventually someone came and directed her to a room that had dried blood on the wall. She was given a blanket that was still wet. She began to bleed and go into labor. Despite her cries, no one assisted her. After one hard push, the baby was born, fully intact and definitely alive. Angele said, “His right leg moved. He curled up a bit, like he was cold; I screamed but no one came.” She pleaded for the clinic workers to call 911 but they did not. Angele caressed and comforted her son by rubbing his back, tummy and chest. “I stroked his precious little head and kept telling him I loved him and we would be okay,” she said. Still no one came to help. Eventually Angele, holding the baby still attached to the umbilical cord, ran to get her cell phone. Help did not arrive in time. Rowan took his last breath.“After a few minutes I realized for certain that he was gone. I picked up my son. I held him to my chest. I rocked him and prayed. I could not stop crying,” said Angele. “I felt so bad. I felt so helpless. I had been so wrong to come here … I wanted to fix and change everything once I saw Rowan’s precious little face and body. All we needed was someone to get us to safety,” Angele said. Mathew D. Staver, President and General Counsel of Liberty Counsel, which represents Angele, stated: “When I visited baby Rowan at the funeral home and saw his precious little body, fully formed with blond eyelashes and growing fingernails, I wondered, ‘How can we continue to kill our children and hide behind the rubric of choice?’ Rowan’s short life will not be in vain if his story can give life and hope to mothers who believe their only choice is abortion. Rowan joins the ranks of thousands of children who die each day by abortion. Most have no names and we never see their faces. We must restore a culture of life. i know a ton of people will get on here and call b.s. that's fine. i've talked to a lady who ran multiple abortion clinics in Dallas...and ended up in jail for this kind of stuff. she told me she was going into schools telling kids they shouldn't listen to their parents' advice on sex, because they would be "old-fashioned." she knew the more kids having sex...the better the business would be for her. they would perform abortions and coax the women into it. they provided no ultrasound and would limit the information the woman could have about the option of actually giving birth to the baby. she did an about face...a 180...on the issue after coming to the realization of what she had been doing. very sad. regret everywhere.
Interesting source Giddy... Anyway, this story is disgusting on SOOO many levels. First, if true, it's horrible and that clinic should be closed post-haste and legal action taken. I am pro-choice, but late term's need to be SEVERELY curtailed, as in life or death of the mother. Second, when abortion is outlawed, what will be the response of the pro-life crowd when mothers start dying in back-alley slums trying to get abortions the "illegal" way?

These kind of articles are meant to illict a gut response and paint one side or the other as theocratic bigots or savage baby-killers. So if she "loved" her baby so much, why did she try to abort it? Didn't she ultimately get what she wanted?
Not to derail the thread, but why would you need an ultrasound if you were going to abort the baby? Seems like a waste of time and money. And are you saying that the women/girls going into the abortion clinic don't realize that they have the option of giving birth to the baby, and that in fact is what will happen if natures takes its normal course?
women don't walk in KNOWING in most cases. this goes on in planned parenthood places as well. they come in seeking choices. they don't know what's going on exactly with the development of the baby in their body. these are doctors...like lawyers, they have certain duties to their clients to explain the big picture.
because of the assumption it calls for. in this country, we essentially have abortion on demand, despite the limitations set forth in Roe. if you want an abortion after the first trimester, you'll get it. no problem. some think that's fine. others have problems with it.
So if I get this straight: 1 - Woman decides to abort baby 2 - Takes drugs to elicit abortion 3 - Baby is aborted 4 - She blames the abortion clinic for not saving her baby? The whole screaming and crying part is probably common is an abortion clinic, don't you think? I can see the clinic being blamed for not coming to her aid quickly, but the death of her baby is totally her fault. A fetus of 23 weeks old is not fully developed, lung-wise, heart-wise, mentally, etc. You can't expect it to survive.
I've said it before, and I will say it until the day I die, because it is the truest of true-isms..... If it were physically possible for men to get pregnant, there would be an abortion clinic on every corner in every city in the United States. Another thing: I no longer call those opposed to abortion "Pro-Life", because that is a complete misnomer. I call them "Pro-Birth". I call them this because they have proven time and time again, since Roe vs. Wade, that they don't give a flying f*ck about the baby or the baby's family once the baby is born. Disagree? Prove me wrong!

Seems like this woman just had a change of heart when she had to come face to face with the screaming humanity of her baby. If this had gone clinically as planned, there might have been no story here or we might have heard from this lady three years after the fact writing a story of regret for Redbook. I think she got what she intended but now she has to live with a deep regret. If that clinic is not prepared to try and save lives then they are nothing but killers. Does anybody know The Hippocratic Oath by heart?
ya know what...i don't disagree. i agree. i find it very disheartening. but that's limited to the political movement. there are organizations out there...and more than a few of them...that give all sorts of assistance to the mother and her child. they pay for health care...birth...assitance with adoption agencies, if necessary...college/job training funding...baby clothes/food/furniture. i know this because i've worked with groups like this. http://www.care-net.org/ And locally...my favorite one.. http://fifthward.org/ all of these are absolutely free services. they provide free ultrasounds..free maternity care...and then assist the mother and baby so they can take care of themselves. they provide parent training for new moms and dads. many times the women who come here say later that they didn't know love like that existed...that they'd never been cared for like that ever before by anyone. that, to me, is a real solution.
i think these are excellent points. this change of heart is ENTIRELY common!!! i mean EXTREMELY common. particularly where the baby is actually born. and if you're a doctor and you deal with this daily...and you're not prepared for that...then you're a freaking quack. one other antecdote. heard a woman speak who used to work as a nurse at an abortion clinic. assisted with an abortion where, as here, the baby was born alive. the clinic put the baby in a room alone to die. all by itself. she couldn't stand it. she went into the room and held the baby as it died, so it would not be alone. needless to say, she quit. as gross or painful or horriible or offensive as these stories are...they are stark reality. this is the product of what we're doing. the product of a culture that values so much beyond life.
