http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/chronicle/archive/2003/03/03/DD99951.DTL Excerpt: <i>Between songs, the pugnacious Hynde, in a classic black T-shirt and jeans, bantered and battled with the crowd. She dedicated "You Know Who Your Friends Are" to "all you junkies and f--," gave a shout-out to the late Joe Strummer, <B>opined that she hopes the United States loses if it goes to war with Iraq ("Bring it on! Give us what we deserve!")</B>, and introduced the song "Fools Must Die" with the self-deprecating quip, "I'll show you how it's done."</I> I'm all for people protesting the war, but to hope we lose? Now, that's un-American. She better hope Saddam likes her music.
Pure idiocy. Here's a quote from another article: "Have we gone to war yet?" she asked sarcastically, early on. "We (expletive) deserve to get bombed. Bring it on." Later she yelled, "Let's get rid of all the economic (expletive) this country represents! Bring it on, I hope the Muslims win!" http://www.bayarea.com/mld/cctimes/5303729.htm On a related note, I found this pic amusing:
Something else you should probably know about this psychotic woman. ------------------------------------------------------------------ <b>Pretenders Frontwoman Calls For Assassination Of Businessmen</b> (12/11/02, 5 p.m. ET) -- Chrissie Hynde (news) is at it again. The Pretenders leader seems to be calling for the heads of some business leaders as a solution to some of the world's economic problems. <b> Hynde, who says multinational corporations "are destroying the planet," tells Tower Records' Pulse magazine, "The last resort is for someone to go in and actually take these guys out. Maybe it will have to be an out-and-out assassination. When no one will listen anymore, then individuals have to take the law into their own hands and it can get very ugly. When some people decide to run the world for their own economic interests, then someone has to take them out." </b> A spokesperson said Hynde's words were taken out of context, and that she's certainly not suggesting that people commit murder. The socially active Hynde, you might recall, caused a bit of a stir in 1989 when she suggested that people should firebomb McDonald's restaurants. After someone attempted to do just that, she issued a retraction under threat of legal action from the food chain. She was also arrested at a Gap outlet in New York City in March 2000 after she and three cohorts from People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) slashed some leather clothing to protest the company's use of black-market leather from India and China, which the Gap has since stopped. -- Bruce Simon, New York
Now wait just a minute .. I checked the all the threads and this is the board consensus: Protesting is NOT unAmerican, but it IS misguided. However, turning your back to the flag IS unAmerican and will likely get you b****-slapped. But I don't think we've reached any type of agreement on whether hoping we lose a war is, in fact, unAmerican. We'll need a full contingent of right and left posters to hash out this issue before we can proclaim her status.
I'm guessing we could all agree that hoping America loses at something like a war could be a pretty damn good example of being anti-American. Of course, MadMax will argue with me just to argue, so I may have turned him into a Pretenders fan!
And the verdict: http://members.cox.net/tflamm/b****.jpg clutchcity.net hereby labels Chrissy Hynde, leader singer of the Pretenders, <b>Un-American</b>! Next!?
