Guns & Roses played the Rock in Rio festival two nights ago. It was their first show in 7+ years. Axl Rose is the only original band member left. Tommy Stinson (from the Replacements) is playing bass. That's him on the right in the second picture. Talk about hard up for cash. Stinson was playing pickup gigs in Hollywood for drug money when I moved out of there over two years ago. I'm sure Paul Westerberg is shaking his head. I know many of you like them, but I truly cannot stand Guns & Roses' music. IMHO, their music is some of the most pathetic noise ever to be classified as "rock". Pictures from Sunday night's show make me laugh because old Axl has developed a bit of a paunch. I guess he has discovered that with all of the cash he has made, he can now afford to buy his own food & beer. He is starting to look like an aging truck driver. His body isn't that bad. Hell, he was just a skinny little kid back then. No matter what he does, he's never going to be confused with "good looking." ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
200,000 people were at that show. ------------------ "I have to say, I don't understand why these Rockets' fans are booing Scottie." -Calvin Murphy
oooooh yuck. Why can't he just leave his tie dye shirt on??? He is a disgusting slob. Why does he have to show us his ugly, sweaty body? He needs to work off those love handles. Part of coming back as a band should be to get in shape as well. Stand aside, 38 Special...here comes Axle. Oh yeah...38 Special lost all their weight..didn't they? Hehehe . On a side note, I would have like to have thrown some plastic cups and bottles at Oasis, too, since they weren't heavy enough for the Rock n' Rio festival...woooh! Oasis....YOU SUCK AND YOU ARE NOWHERE NEAR AS GOOD AS THE BEATLES WERE SO DON'T EVEN GO THERE! Surf ------------------
Looks like Axl's fallen prey to the dreaded Vince Neil disease. At least Vince had the decency to cover his gut with an oversize shirt. ------------------
At least Ozzy can still rock! Can the same be said about Axl? Anyone? ------------------ "Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever." - Gandhi
RocketMan Tex, Dude, I don't know what you're deal is against GnR, but their first album is #1 on my list of all-time albums. That thing ROCKED from cover to cover. "Lies" was pretty good (That slow version of "You're Crazy" is awesome), but everything after that was pure trash. ------------------ My Rocket Page
I understand how you and others would like GnR. I just happen to disagree. I think it has to do with two things. I was playing music in Hollywood in 1986 when GnR hit it big. I saw them in clubs and in an arena. They never impressed me as being good songwriters or musicians. To me, they were alot of style and no substance. The other thing is that I met Axl Rose at a party in early 1987, and I can tell you that he was one of the rudest, most arrogant and most obnoxious people I have ever met. Those are the reasons why I cannot stand GnR. I remember an interview that Rolling Stone did with Peter Buck, the guitarist from REM, back in the late 1980s. The interview was done at Buck's house in Athens, Georgia. The interviewer rang the doorbell, and while waiting for Buck to answer the door, he noticed that Buck had a Guns n Roses "Appetite for Destruction" doormat on his front porch. When the interviewer asked Buck why he had a GnR doormat on his front porch, Buck replied... "I can't think of anything I'd rather wipe my feet on more than Guns N Roses". Amen to that! ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
RMT, When Appetite came out, I loved it. I was big into metal and harder stuff so I bought into the hype. Then, I saw them live. They were the biggest bunch of bad musicians that I had ever seen (up to that time). They were clearly a "studio band." They needed all the computer stuff to make it sound like music. iIremember Slash missing on just about every solo. Ugh...disliked them ever since. ------------------ EZLN
The reason a GnR live performance may have been sketchy is because they were always so messed up on stage that they could barely walk! Slash is one of the best in the business, even I know that. And DREAMer, anybody that can call the Use Your Illusion albums pure trash must not be a fan of rock-n-roll. ------------------ "I have to say, I don't understand why these Rockets' fans are booing Scottie." -Calvin Murphy
LOL! Best in the business at what? Shooting heroin into his arm? Certainly not guitar playing. If you believe Slash is one of the greatest guitar players ever, then I have some nice beachfront property to sell you...in Arizona! ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
