For those interested, the Australian Basketball season concluded today with Woolongong winning (as I predicted on another thread over a month ago...and it's the only thing I have got right in that time, with my big tip horse for yesterday still running and taking my $ with it...)

Anyway, the reason that news is in this part of this forum is that the Woolongong Hawks team featured ROY Axel Dench.

Keen Rocket fans will know that the Rocks had Dench work out last summer and are reportedly keeping their eyes on him with a view to maybe putting him in the squad at sometime...

The good news is...Dench has had a great season. He won ROY, played on a team that shocked the nation by winning it's first ever championship. No doubt about it...he has a great career ahead.

Now the bad news...that career will NOT be in the NBA with the Rocks. Simply put, he is not of NBA standard. His lateral movement is terrible and he'd be killed by quick NBA centres (the one or two who are left anyway...)

Maybe, just maybe, with a hell of a lot of work...he could be a player for the Rocks one day...but, for what my opinion is worth, it isn't likely...

I watched to game today (on ABC- that American commentator rocks, the Aussie ain't bad either) and I was thinking how lucky it is that David Stern isn't the Commisioner of the NBL. Imagine how nuts he would be with a Townsville v Wollongong Grand final (2 regional cities in Australia).

Congrats to the Hawks, the way they came back they deserved it. I feel sorry for Rob Rose though, he's one hell of a player.

I agree with you, SRJ, he plays D like his feet are tied together. Axel isn't NBA Standard, but will hopefully be a great NBL or European Champion.

Actually...I just read a story on Axel that says he shot the three at 46% this year...

Hmmm...a big, white, unathletic guy who can shoot the three...

I thus retract my statement that he has no shot at the Rocks...Rudy must be salivating!

LOL Band Geek Man...the Gunners rock!

Apparently, Axel has been given the nickname 'Foley' as in Beverly Hills Cop...but he should have got the boys to tag him 'Rose' or Sweet Child (he is a rook) or something...

    Go the Gunners!

This is not another Nowitzki proto type and definitely not the type of player that can really take the ball too hoops like some strong centers in the league. It' so unlikely.
