there has been plenty of mvp talk in this forum but i didn't see an overall awards thread. so who do you think should win everything this year (or i guess post who you think will win the awards if you want). MVP: LeBron James ROY: Chris Paul Sixth Man: Mike Miller Most Improved: Boris Diaw DPOY: Ben Wallace All-NBA 1st Team: G - Nash G - Kobe F - LeBron F - Brand C - Dirk All-NBA 2nd Team: G - Billups G - Wade F - Marion F - Duncan C - Yao All-NBA 3rd Team: G - Parker G - Iverson F - Gasol F - Ben Wallace C - Shaq i really wanna put iverson above billups, but i don't see it working that way. hopefully i didn't omit anyone too obvious from the 3 teams.
I think Paul Pierce needs to get some love thrown his way. I'd argue that he should be on the third team instead of wallace--seeing how wallace is a center. Everything else seems good though, but i've got Kobe or Nash as my MVP. The Lakers could win 45 games, with a starting lineup that includes Smush Parker, Kwame Brown, Chris Mihm and up and down Lamar Odom. Kobe put them on his back and carried them to the playoffs, where they would be the 5th seed if they were in the East. If Bryant had Z and Drew Gooden collecting rebounds for him and Jones knocking down open threes the way he has been lately, i'd say the Lakers would have just as much success as the Cavs have had this season. Nash has pretty much guaranteed contract extensions for Raja Bell,Diaw and James Jones. Not to mention making a man who can't create his own shot a possible second teamer. No one would have blamed Nash this team being .500 - but he has raised his game yet again. IF James were to win it, i'd have no problem with that. I just think that Kobe and Nash are more deserving this season.
not really, but he has to be on the 1st team and no center deserves to be there so that's where he fits best (he's more of a center than brand). and i'd rather see kobe win than lebron (not that i don't like lebron) but james puts up 35/8/7 type games so easily it's scary and made lots of big plays at crunch time later in the season. i can easily see kobe duplicating lebron's success with the cavs, but i still have to give a tiny advantage to lebron (who does have a higher PER, PER differential, roland rating, and plus/minus if all by small margins). i think kobe is probably the most talented player in the game but lebron's physical edge over kobe (and everyone else) is just too great. as for nash, i can't vote anyone who isn't even in the running for best player in the nba as the mvp (except last year when NOBODY stood out).
I bet Yao Ming wont be included in any of the all-nba team. The media will find way to screw the rockets!
MVP: Steve Nash ROY: Chris Paul Sixth Man: Ben Gordon Most Improved: David West DPOY: Ben Wallace All-NBA 1st Team: G - Nash G - Kobe F - LeBron F - Brand C - Yao All-NBA 2nd Team: G - Billups G - Wade F - Gasol F - Dirk C - Camby All-NBA 3rd Team: G - Parker G - Iverson F - Pierce F - Duncan C - Shaq
I think Yao will get all NBA second team, mainly because the media likes to reward team success over individual success...
Here are the espn expert picks: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2411683 I think the mvp will come down between Kobe and Lebron, I think Lebron will win it.
MVP: Kobe ROY: Chris Paul. I think Even the real Chris Bosh would vote for Paul instead of Charlie V. most improved: boris diaw
All NBA First Team Center - Chris Kaman Second Team - Eric Dampier Third Team - whatever. Seriously, Dirk Nowitski, 1st team center? Would anybody really trade Yao for him straight up?
I believe Vince Carter should be put in higher regard than he is right now. playoffs+plus clutch plays and consistency
MVP: Steve Nash. ROY: Chris Paul Sixth Man: Mike Miller Most Improved: Boris Diaw DPOY: Bruce Bowen All-NBA 1st Team: G - Nash G - Kobe F - LeBron F - Marion C - Yao All-NBA 2nd Team: G - Billups G - Wade F - Brand F - Dirk C - Ben Wallace All-NBA 3rd Team: G - Parker G - Carter F - Gasol F - Pierce C - Shaq
MVP: I agree with Bill Simmons' logic, in the fact that Kobe has had one of the greatest seasons in recent history; and it would be criminal to steal the award from him. He's made 40 points look routine, and 50 look like the new 40. Imagine if he'd played against Dallas in the 4th and put up a 70 point game to go with the 81? My pick: Kobe Bryant ROY: Chris Paul. Honestly, this might be a more lopsided vote than the Heisman. My pick: Chris Paul Sixth Man: Ah, now we're to the more irrelevant awards that no one remembers. The Grizzlies have done some incredible things with the roster that Jerry West has put together; I think that they do the most with the least amount of talent in the West, and I've got to give Mike Fratello a ton of credit to put a guy who's making 8 million a year for quite a while as a reserve. My Pick: Mike Miller Most Improved: You know, I always wondered why everyone had given up on Boris Diaw. The knock on him in Atlanta was he was "too unselfish," that he had all the tools but he couldn't use them. Too unselfish? That's a problem that can be fixed; as if Yao, the guy whom everyone said could never be truly aggressive because of his Chinese upbringing (a statement I have always hated; it's like saying a black person who grows up in the ghetto can never outgrow criminalistic tendencies and violence). If David West and the Hornets had made the playoffs, he would have had my vote, as well as the sympathy vote of the nation. Notice the trend for most improved players this year though? David West/Chris Paul. Boris Diaw/Steve Nash. Gerald Wallace/Raymond Felton. My pick: Boris Diaw-Riffiod DPOY: This award is usually given based on reputation, and a few great showings that stick in the voters mind. I can't exactly say that I've seen Ben Wallace act as a defensive monster against the Rockets, and Andrei Kirilenko wasn't especially impressive. I'd love to give the award to Ron Artest, but then again, I'd rather watch what he does when he realizes he's been snubbed. Therefore, I'll have to go with the only force that has been a consistent terror against the Rockets this season, who hounded T-Mac relentlessly this year and was often the only thing that stopped one of the best scorers in the league. My Pick: T-Mac's Back As for the All-NBA teams; I can't see any way that Yao makes it onto the first team. Not because of racial bias, not because David Stern, who has no control over the votes, somehow abhors Houston, despite giving them the All-Star Game. It's just that team success and reputation is so important to this honor that I wouldn't be surprised if Yao slipped to the third team, or off the lists entirely. You have to go back quite a while to find a player who wasn't on one of the top teams, or at least a playoff team, that made All-NBA. Therefore, my teams are: 1st: G - Steve Nash G - Kobe Bryant F - LeBron James F - Dirk Nowitzki C - Tim Duncan 2nd: G - Chauncey Billups G - Dwyane Wade F - Carmelo Anthony F - Elton Brand C - Ben Wallace 3rd: G - Gilbert Arenas G - Vince Carter F - Shawn Marion F - Pau Gasol C - Shaquille O'Neal After compiling these lists, I have to say, I'm not envious of NBA writers anymore... Well, maybe still a little...
Hahaha, DPOY: T-Mac's Back. Good call, that's clearly it. "The back stopped T-Mac, the back can stop you."
