i started a thread like this to start the season in order to measure peoples expectations. now that we are rapping up the last few weeks before the post season begins, lets give our current predictions as well as admitting any preidictions from earlier in the season that you may not agree with anymore. MVP current pick: Paul - thanks to him team is ahead of at least 8 more talented teams. early pick: Lebron - i thought the team would be much better. DPOY current pick: Howard - beats camby due to denver's horrible defense. early pick: Garnett - i thought his rebs/blks would inflate in the east. ROY current pick: Horford - contributor on playoff team with really nice #s. early pick: Durrant - might win, but has inflated stats on garbage team. COY current pick: Cheeks - surprise team of the year. early pick: Scott - probably the favorite. 6th man current pick: Ginobili - for obvious reasons. early pick: Ginobili
I think they should change the 6th man award to someone who doesn't play the entire game besides the first 3 minutes. Kinda a waste of an award is Baldy Ginobili or Ben Gordon wins it. MVP- Kobe Bryant DPOY- Dwight Howard RoY- Horford COY- MoCheeks
agree completely. the only reason camby won last year was his domination of rebounds and blocks. he's actually not a great one-on-one defender. truth is, rebounds shouldn't really count as defense either. they should poll 30 all stars as well as 30 coaches. see who the players say is the toughest guy to score on.
MVP= Chris Paul (Hornets will finish with great record) DPOY = They' ll probably give it to Howard, even though it should go to Battier. I think at times this year, Battier has been remarkable on defense against some big time players. 6th man of the year= Manu Ginobili
MVP - Tracy McGrady ROY - Luis Scola DPOY - Shane Battier COY - Rick Adelman 6thMOY - Luther Head It could happen right?
Howard as the DPOY is quite laughable. Anyone who watches this dude knows his defense is average at best.
Thankyou. Not only awards, but discussion as well...there is nothing more asinine than when people try to back up their arguments regarding a player's defensive abilities with steals/blocks statistics. High steals numbers don't make you a great defender - it just means you can play the passing lanes well. NBA guards RARELY rip their man straight up off the dribble. Blocks rarely come straight up on your man. Being a good defender means you can guard your man, not rotate effectively to get a block or play the passing lanes to get a steal. All-Defense selections should not be based on the strength of steals and blocks (I'm looking at you John Stockton).
ROY: Durant (he may be a "volume shooter" who's given the green light to do whatever he wants, but he's improved dramatically and deserves the award) MVP: Lebron DPOY: Dwight Howard Sixth man: Manu COY: Doc Rivers MIP: Mike Dunleavy
no way Lebron wins MVP. If the Cavs were in the West they'd be in the 9th spot and out of playoffs. No way Lebron wins it. MVP: KG ROY: Durant DPOY: KG COTY: Adelman 6th man: Manu Most Improved: Chris Paul
I am torn. I hate Kobe. BUT he's undoubtedly top 2 with Lebron. But Lebron never got any charity trades. Kobe and his success this season to me is mainly the consequence of some shady situational front office dealings. Take away Gasol and I don't think he is any more valuable than he has been since he physically matured. The Fisher signing was unorthodox. If he hadn't had experience there earlier, then who is to say he wouldn't have signed with US considering we have one of the best medical centers in the country? Not that he isn't a top all-time player, but a lot of happenstance went into his return to NBA relevence. Still... I think he takes it.
because Fish had lived in LA before. he knows that LA and NYC have the best medical facilities in the country. don't think if Houston is even top 10
I assume they do. But I stress that coaches and only coaches should have the right to vote for DPOY. They are the few people who watch every team first hand, witness what great defenders do to their top players, and are the only people I trust to cast the vote.
When I say this anywhere, people think I'm crazy or some kind hater. But really, if you watch the Magic, his defense is not that astonish, I will say it is slightly better than average and sometimes pretty good. But if I had list of the leagues best defenders in all out pure defense, not statistics only. He wouldn't be in my top 5 or 10. I think Al Jefferson is a better defender than Dwight. And in some areas of defense, I would even say Dwight is weaker defender than Yao....in some areas, not all. DPOY - (should be) Shane Battier ALL NBA 1st = Dwight, Garnett, Lebron, Kobe, Paul 2nd = Amare, Duncan, Pierce, T-Mac, Nash 3rd = Yao, Boozer, Jamison, Ginobili, Davis I think Shaq might jump ship over Yao, because some of these awards are popularity contest....and will say Shaq is better than Yao, even though averages about 10 points and 3 rebs less.
Rookie: Durant, should be Scola MVP: Kobe, should be Kobe =D Coach: Doc Rivers, alot of other teams have 3/4stars, he makes his 3 stars win games (see denver: kmart/ai/cmelo/camby/etc) --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6th man: Manu, should be Keith Van Horn for coming off the ultimate bench to provide a big lift ----------------------------------------------------------
oh defensive... it'll goto freakin popcorn machine can't play real D cuz he wants to score more Dhoward, should be Shane imo
