Being at the game last night, I noticed the following from the coaching standpoint.

    1. Jeff "REACTS" to what Avery does. Avery is first to make a move going small and then jeff comes with under sized Chuck Hayes. As soon as Jeff puts Hayes on Dirk, Dirk starts doing work. Hits two threes in Chucks face. I swear Snyder and Chuck are the same size and we need Snyders D.

    2. Everyone in the nation knows Jason Terry cannot hit a shot going left, I'll put up my house. The big shot he hit late, Rafer allowed him to dribble right of a weak a$$ screen.

    3. Stackhouse posting up at the freethrow line and scoring over little luther or rafer. Stop playing those 2 together, the Defense sucks.

    4. Avery knows that luther and rafer are not finishers, the tear drop, finger roll, short jumper (Rafer did hit a couple in the 1st Qtr), as a result, Avery chases them off the 3 point line or they are shooting with a hand in their face.

    5. The final 3 possessions by the Rockets were horrible. We all know the high pick and roll is coming with Tracy and Dallas doubles Tracy forcing him to pass to Rafer or Luther who are forced to drive and miss.

This is our biggest problem vs the Mavs, IMO. Jeff needs to be the one pushing the issue. We all know that won't happen, though, as he is a coach that only makes adjustmentts when he absolutely has to.

Want to watch a good coaching match up watch Avery vs Pop in the playoffs. JVG is just not in the same league as the true elite coaches of the league. He's to slow to make adjustments and his rotation is just the same old stuborn rotation he always uses regardless of what the opponent puts on the floor. The Rockets have to overcome Jeff's coaching to win and they can't do it against the better teams.

Avery got the best of him last night. We used our timeouts too soon so were unable to adapt the zone that Avery pulled out in the last minute.

I'm thinking a 2nd round playoffs match up with the Mavs would be one heck of a series assuming we are at full strength.

    Bring it on Dallas!

    :)

Exactly...Jeff did pretty well last night considering we were undermanned. Avery showed why he is coach of the year so far.

Way I see it, right now, Dallas is a great team with a great coach.

Houston is a very good team, with a very good coach.

At full strength I still like our chances against any team with the exception of the small ball Suns.

Optimism is brimming for this Kansas Rox fan. :D

I think the Mavs are "deeper" in that they had 4 guys at the end who could create their own shot and score.

    We had...

    One. :(

    Hurry back Yao...

Talent wise the 9 they play are better than the 8-9 guys jeff is playing all across the board right now. that is the biggest reason why jeff has to be more reactionary to avery's changes. avery has the fortunate luxury to be able to have a deep and talented bench

the guys on tnt had a point last night when luther had the ball and they said something along the lines of he is sometimes the only guy off the bench scoring.

the more i see bonzi play the more i am getting convinced that he will not mesh well with this team and he is supposed to be our bench guy.

of course two of our main bench guys are starting right now so yao coming back will be a huge boost, i figure chuck to start again with yao in the lineup.

Thats the key...you want Avery to react, wait till Yao comes back!!!!!! He'll react come playoff time when all Erika Dampier and 6 foul Diop will do is look at Avery and say "what else am i suppose to do..."

When Avery goes small, and Dirk will actually have to play some physical D on Yao (something he hasn't done because he is a 7ft SG), you'll see Avery REACT before Jeff even makes a move!

I can't wait till the playoffs, when we get to face Dallas full squad...it's a whole new ball game!

Exactly, Yao is any team in the West's worst nightmare...except Phoenix cause they will just run him out of the game.

    Frickin' small ball.

Depth doesn't mean how many players your'e playing. Depth means how many quality players your'e playing.

When you're a defensive team, most of the time you react to their offense, especially if you're superstar player is struggling offensively.

how about when they went to dampier/dirk and JVG stuck to Hayes and battier/wells at the forwards even though it was a small lineup?

everyone is so quick to point out when JVG was getting "outcoached", but there were numerous instances when he wasn't merely being forced by avery. you just want to point out where he reacted.

it's always someone's move. When JVG stuck to the small lineup against dampier/dirk, that would be JVG forcing it instead of reacting

Dallas is not deeper than the Rockets, is that JVG refuses to develop his bench.

Rockets are 4 and 12 against the Mavs since JVGs been here. Another interesting stat TNT put up last night. It would be cool if some one could dig up our record against the Suns and Spurs with JVG.

Jeff made some nice adjustments from the last time we lost to Dallas, but in the game he's getting schooled by Avery at every turn. Look at the Dallas assistant coaches compared to us. The Rockets need Phil Jackson there I said it. I'm still pissed about last night.

I think you guys will complain less about JVG's coaching when he as an All Star at center....JVG's "horrible" coaching has the Rockets at 33-19 at the break. I'm as optimistic a Rocket fan as anyone, but there was now way in **** I thought they would be this good at this point. IMHO this is the best Rockets coaching job since the year Don Chaney got the team to 52 wins without Dream. I know that it's sacreligious to even suggest this, but from an X's and O's perspective, Jeff is light years ahead of the previous regime.
